LOL, smart lady hehehe.

I actually would love an extra AMD system, a computer is a computer and I like 'em all but one keeps me occupied enough already. So for my one computer I think I have the best overall in speed, stability, and features which is the Intel mobo + CPU combo. I know a lot of AMD users and I'll tell you a few of things about them, 1 they all wish they had a P4 system at one time or another if not most of the time, and 2 they always tell me to keep my P4 system and don't go to AMD, and 3, the reason many of them have an AMD system is cost. You can get more bang on a low budget with AMD, especially gamers.

Been doing a lot of WEB searching today on my day off and it looks like the Dothan processor will not be the full blown desktop replacement for Prescott.

News on Intels plans are to release even a 4.0GHz Prescott still around the end of the year. This month a new 3.6GHz should appear with the intro of the 925 Alderwood chipset. I tend to believe this article even though none of the articles out there are official Intel statements. Even the ones quoting Intel reps are not totally believable because of changes. It would appear that the chipset this month will just offer PCI-Express, the LGA-775 socket, and some other goodies. Next year at this time the Cedarwood chipset (originally for the Tejas CPU) will support 1066FSB and 64bit software/extensions. Meantime there is talk of a dual-core Prescott even so it looks like Prescott will be staying around for awhile. I would guess there will be a 3.6GHz Prescott and below produced for the LGA socket with 1MB L2 cache along with EE versions. The new E0 stepping Prescott's may even have some kind of clock throttling feature dependant of the load and hopefully have some boot virus protection or whatever AMD is using. I guess Intel won't have a desktop 64bit compatable CPU for some time yet. Oh well, this is good news for those of us who bought the Exos cooler as we will be needing it.

Here are some pics of the Prescot LGA-775:

I'm not positive but Intel's Processor Spec Finder page results look changed for the better to me. I don't remember them having all this info before such as the thermal guideline listing. They also have the boxed order code for the spec you look up. I find this helpful for searching for the exact processor you are looking for in Google for pricing. I looked up the box code for a 3.4EE and found this which is a good price.

I've been feeling real good today. System is running excellent with cooling. Never go above 36C on the Exos which is around 42C for the CPU. Been trying to save BIOS settings in IDCC. One for defaults and one for +4% and 2-3-2-6. Doesn't seem to take them right though. I played UT tonight at 400FSB and 3-3-2-7 and totally kicked butt. Not bad for having a 9600 Pro. I am thinking of keeping settings like that for ultra stability, and lower temps (equals longer life).

My new video card got pushed back another week. Other than that I am waiting for the 21st to read all the reviews and articles of the new Intel chipset and Prescotts that will be coming out soon. I am particularly interested in Azalia. Also Prescott should be getting a new stepping but I'm not sure when. It will be interesting to see benchmarks of a 3.6GHz Prescott in an LGA-775 package. I was quite surprised yesterday when I was researching Intel's other boards. The D875GLC has many models but is a micro ATX board. Thing is it does everything our board can do except it is an 865 chipset like the PERL and even has the same audio as the PERL and comes with GB LAN. It will take a 3.0C P4 also. There are some nice micro cases out there but they are still too high to fit under a monitor. I wonder if Intel will have any micro ATX boards for the next chipset series to handle a hot Prescott.

Wednesday or Thursday evening at the latest. I am not sure if it will come with a DVI cable or not or if your 9600 Pro has DVI out. I think it takes regular video cables but I don't have one of those either. Hopefullly I will get cables with the monitor. I will have a pics or two though anyway but hopefully I will have it up and running.

Good Lord, I'll post some trivia if it keeps us from going under.

I just installed 2x256 sticks of those new Mushkin BH6 sticks along side my 2x256 BH5's.
One: trying to go the 4% burn-in route was unsuccessful. I've never seen a BIOS screen tell me to "Wait" before. I did until my patience ran out.
(This is on the 2.8C workstation, by the way...)
Two: Before installing the new sticks I reset my RAM timings to 2-3-3-6. The new setup seems to like this.
Three: I ran some Sandra benchmarks with the previous (2x256/BH5@2-2-2-6) setup and here's what I got: 4636/4744 and 8685 mb/s.
After installing the BH6 chips for a total of 1024 (2x256 BH5's+2x256 BH6's) I got 4606/4637 and 8819 mb/s.

Tomorrow morning I have a couple of radio spots to produce with Adobe Audition 1.5+Ozone 3x and we'll see if the additional RAM makes a difference.
