That's what I would get ifI needed a new PSU. Just make sure you get one with an 8 pin ATX. I got a Silverstone for a E6600 build I did and it performed perfectly with a decent OC (3.1g) and a 7900gt. Pretty sure this was it here. That one would give you your modular options.

Thanks, Speedster...I'll look into both. The PCP&C isn't shown on NewEgg but perhaps it'll show up soon.

No prob . I'm not sure but I don't remember ever seeing PCP&C at either newegg, tigerdirect, zipzoomfly etc. You may have to buy from them direct though I have seen them sold by lesser known retailers that offer cable modding etc. I kinda like buying direct fromn the manufacturer though

edit: I take that back, they do show the 610W silencer at Newegg. Still when I ordered mine from PCP&C it came fast and was packaged real nice. Was almost funny it was this huge box with a PSU in the middle

Welp, I called INTEL, they in a nutshell told me I had a pre-release D975, not supposed to be on the market. They arranged for a replacement on my bahalf with the merchant

That's too bad, this new MOBO is sweet if it weren;t for the dead IDE.

Man I would say screw that IDE channel, get a SATA optical and keep it unless they were going to replace it with another bad axe 2

If it doesn't have a 8 pin ATX (and I couldn't find one) you don't want it for the D975XBX and C2D. Even though the board comes with a 4 pin adapter you will not be able to OC at all.

No, only because I will get no tech support or warranty with by keeping it. And they will not replace it with another XBX2

You know, I have no idea what you mean by "8 pin ATX". What does this mean and why is it necessary for overclocking?
In the past we just installed a PSU and paid attention to the overall wattage and had no problems.

I have noticed that there is a lot of new terminology and requirements that arrived with PCI Express machines.
Heck, I'm still figuring out memory requirements for PCI Express.

You know how on most modern motherboards there are the 24pin connector, the molex, and the little square 4 pin (for lack of a better term) That is the power dedicated to the cpu. Some boards like the D975XBX have an 8 pin. Until recently you really didn't see this on single socket motherboards and didn't need an SSI PSU unless you were running a sever board. I have heard from several people here and elsewhere that when using the 4 pin adapter that comes with the board they were unable to overclock more then a tiny bit though they did seem to run stable at stock speeds.

Instead of the older 4-pin connector from the PS that one plugged in adjacent to the CPU, an 8-pin connector is used now mainly for dual core. If you look at a pic of the mobo you'll see it. As said above - a four pin will be unstable for OC.
