I believe I've posted this link before but for the person questioning DDR2 667MHz support just go to Memory and you will see that the chipset has been tested with a few models of 667MHZ RAM. I see references all the time showing DDR2 667 (PC-5400) support on the 975X chipset.

It would be good to pull that to the top this time.
I remember reviews since Intel came out with the D875PBZLK that the ICH was always equal or faster in transfer speeds compared to other board tests. Intel boards are really fast now. We will see the same with the new D975XBX I am sure. Maybe EBIM goes higher than +10% for all Preslers not just the EE since the Presler is looking to be a great over-clocker but I really doubt it. What we do need though is at least 2.2VDDR this time. OC is just for fun for me but I really use the higher RAM voltage and fast RAM requires it. Also I haven't been keeping track of all the pluses this board has like all the RAM options listed above but they are really piling up. Much more than the competition I think. Don't forget that this board has 8 USB 2.0 and 1394 A and B. I don't know of any other board with Firewire B on it. Let's see, there is also Matrix RAID. The BIOS will boot off of about every device there is including removable and there is remote booting and remote administrator configuration possible. 8GB of ECC RAM plus this board supports every 775 socket processor out there. SLI/Crossfire/Dolby Digital Audio/400/533/667/800 FSB and on and on and on, etc., etc., etc..

There will be extra sauce in this board says Intel and the current board already does +30% EBIM with the EE so I am anxious to see what they are talking about. One thing is for sure, Intel ain't playing around and it's all coming real soon. NDA is lifted this month (27th) I believe so reviews on Presler and the D975XBX should leak out a day earlier.

I haven't reached near 4.2GHz with the FSB. It has been all mutliplier for me. I try some of the settings I see out there but none seem to work real well. I think it has to do with my VDDR only going to 2.08V. When is Intel going to give us VOLTAGE?

Holy Ship Batman!! Intels gross profit margin is 63% for last quarter. Reported Q4 earnings are around $10.5 billion. This is after expenses people. A 63% gross profit margin means for every dollar Intel spent it received 1.63 dollars back. Intel is a gold mine. You might think well they charge too much. That may be true but I think their hardware is worth every penny (except for EE chips but gotta have it lol).

Here's an email I received from Corsair. I asked when they would be coming out with low latency 1GB modules as OCZ already has them (but you can't locate any).

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your interest in our products. We are working on DDR2 modules with low latency, however we do not have a solid release date for this modules. We thank you for your patience.

Best regards,

I played around with some settings and was able to reach 4.25GHz but I could not manage to run 3DMark05. Also have a pic below of the maintenance screen you get in BIOS after you place the BIOS jumper on pins 2-3. Notice the multiplier selection and other options. I didn't notice this until recently.

All of the memory providers are scrambling for low latency/high fsb chips since Micron discontinued their "fat boy" chips, aka what we have in our Corsair 5400UL. The supplies have dwindled to almost nothing at this time. However, I hear the latest Samsung spin is not doing too badly.

I almost went for 2 more 5400UL sticks last week because I am having a hard time waiting for 2GB but that Anand article convinced me it is better to wait. If Intel would crank out the DDR voltage then maybe I could survive with 4 sticks and still get low latency but it's hard enough maxing out 2 sitcks with just 2.08V. In a system like I plan on having (enthusiast mobo + CPU) I want the fastest RAM I can get at 2GB which is going to be 3-2-2-8 sooner or later.

I decided to wait for 975 chipset motherboards to be fully on the market before I do my upgrade. I got to thinking abou things, and want to setup a Crossfire system using dual Radeon X1600XT's. If I'm not mistaken, the 975 chipset motherboards support both Crossfire and SLI.

Hey ATINUT,

Yes it does. I have thought about trying the same thing. ATI's new card is coming out soon though so I will wait until then to consider it. I don't need SLI for the speed but think it would be a cool experiment and very hard core Besides it would look good in my windowed case.

I figured out for what it would cost me to get a Radeon X1800XL or Radeon X1800XT, I could drop two Radeon X1600XT's in to a 975 chipset motherboard, setup Crossfire and be good to go for gaming for awhile, on the video end of things.

ATI did say, that Crossfire on a motherboard that fully supports Crossfire, won't require a master card. All one will have to do is get say for example as I mentioned above, two Radeon X1600XT cards put them in, and after WindowsXP has been installed, install the drivers, make sure Crossfire is activated and go for gaming.

Otherwise, I'm good to go with a 3GHZ Dual Core, 2GB(two 1GB DIMMS), of Crucial DDR2 533 or Crucial DDR2 667 memory, an Antec Truepower 2.0 550watt ATX 2.0 powersupply, a ThermalTake Silent 775 cpu cooler already on my list.

I'm waiting for the ASUS P5WDG2-WS 975 chipset motherboard to come out. I had a bad expierence the last couple of times I tried an Intel motherboard, with the last one being that Intel 865PERLK. My current ASUS board, is still going and I'm not overclocking. I'm not gonna overclock, as I know enough about the bios to know which tweaks are safe for me to do without messing something up, and the same applies to WindowsXP.

Gigabyte's 975 chipset motherboard is available in Asia now.

Don't know when it will make it to the U.S.

Here's another Intel page on the Extreme platform mobo D955XBK. The D975XBX will be tweaked D955XBK with Crossfire.

I'm definitely waiting for the 975 boards to come out in the U.S. I want one for my upgrade.
