Ok somehow the static charge must be traveling through the keyboard...

If I disable the keyboard from waking the system, leaving only the mouse,
The system stays off after a shuffle of socks and a laying of hands on the table.

Thanks Gwillakers and SpeedDMN. One of the things I like the most about my 875 is the stability of S3. Only time I ever had problems was right after a run of CPU-Z. Mouse was then unable to wakeup the rig. A total shutdown for a minute or so and a restart fixed the problem. I was just wondering if the 975's S3 implementation was as stable.

Seems it is.

I got hooked on S3 in the days of the "cold boot" issues, and been using it ever since. Maybe once a month or so I'll do a total system shutdown overnight. Seems to add a bit of perk afterward.

Hmmmm..........

After following the TQ story I am thinking I may need to replace my stock cooler (D975XBX/E6600). I idle at 44-46C and peak in the middle 50s after an hour or two of Battlefield 2. Dropping the temps to under 50C under load would be very nice.

How does the Zalman compare noise wise to the stock cooler?

I also find it strange that the stock cooler, on my system, never climbs much over 1000 rpms. It usually hovers around 950-1050 rpm. Is this the norm, even under load?

Both are quiet, but that may be more the case than anything else. Let's just say that my system was quiet before and it's still so after.

Glad to see that the Zalman has worked out well for you TQ..

Cnemie,
I do not remember how loud the factory fan was, but I can say the Zalman is Very quiet. I run it at about 1560 rpm and can barely tell its running when I listen for it close to the case.

By whatever the default means is. I haven't given fan speed much thought once I ascertained that the temps had dropped considerably and my system remained quiet.
I now use Intel's Desktop Utilities to monitor system status and it recognizes the Zalman CPU fan. I also reactivated Intel's Active Monitor on my 875 and leave both the IAM and IDU running at all times.

Oh, very interesting...Since I am using manual control and have not tested the mobo as a controller, I was wondering if the mobo cpu controller worked with the Zalman..(?) and can you also read the fan rpm using IDU?

Does anybody know the reason why Intel has removed bios 1378 and the LAN software version 12.0 from the download page? Any trouble with the releases?

I have been running 1378 since 10/05 with no problems. The only thing I noticed was that the machine would not even boot into the BIOS when I tried the 1333 strap. However, that was the first and only time I tried that strap. I have reached 1536 FSB, x9, 533, on stock voltage so I thought 1333 should be no problem.

I updated to bios revision 1378 on both of my D975XBX motherboards, rev 302 and rev 304. However, after I updated on the rev 302 board, the PC wouldn't start: only in bios setup mode. Bios recovery mode showed no activity. The way to get past this was to hold down the reset button.

I called Intel support, which happens to be free here in Japan, and their solution was to revert to the previous 1351 bios version.
