Wait a minute, not really on topic but why are they going into dual core GPUs?? In graphics its infinitely parallelizable and don't need dual core. All they need is to double the pipeline and its effectively the same thing as dual core. Only advantage I can see is marketing, where "Dual Core 7800GTX" sounds better. In reality it might be slower than the one with doubled the pipelines since there are interconnect latency issues and etc. Its BS when the graphics companies/theorists claim their GPU is better than CPU at general purpose computing since they have more logic transistors dedicated to calculation rather than like CPUs, which now they have cache. Graphics apps are infinitely parallelizable, while general purpose computing is mostly integer calculations, which are branchy and can't even take advantage of today's 3-wide CPUs properly. If general purpose is like graphic apps, we wouldn't see this BS about more caches and multi-cores, we would just see single cores advancing.

I hate to see bickering going on in these fun Intel threads. Intel_user has a tight collar and takes this stuff more serious than the rest of us so we will just get use to it. Things are really starting to pick up for Intel and we should all be more happy, not more tense. It might help to not look at Intels progress as winning battles agianst AMD Inc. or AMD users. I'm sure Intels goals are not to beat the FX-57 or 4800+ but to make the best hardware they can while trying to push the industry in the right direction which is beneficial to everyone.

Is there really 16 pages of bickering and speculation about a MB that isn't even out yet?

| We should rename this thread to 975X Positive Speculation Thread .... Anyways, I am really hoping Intel gets back in the game with Conroe and Merom. Yonah is still somewhat of a disappointment.

This thread has more information on the D975XBX than anywhere else on the net-period. I am sure a lot of people find this thread informative. Just because the board ins't out doesn't mean all the information is speculative. Information and pics has been slowly leaking out on this board since this thread started. Sammy and spookyload seem to have made a hard landing but I hope they get accustomed to my board threads and stick around as I provide quite a bit of information, files, pics, and any Intel related material I can in a quick fashion.

I must have missed that one I was going to discuss how a piece of my equipment is getting filmed by the Discovery channel tomorrow and that I tried ordering 2 rev4 WD Raptors but since nobody appreciates me I will just go back in my doghouse ![]()

As for the Yonah statements, go buy a Turion then.

Yonah has me wanting my first notebook. I hope to get one by around the end of next year. I have it picked out aready, it is a Sony Vaio FS series I believe. We have them at work and they are very light with large white keys that feel great. Will use it around the house (wireless) when I get a Linksys router for hooking it up to the net. I am waiting because I have other more pressing purchases and for Yonah but this is the one I want.

Well I do take things seriously, but not without truth. Truth is that SO FAR, there hasn't been any revolutionary increases in performance. The two CPU companies may still stay the same in a year from now. Look at Prescott, initially: Mid-2003 Cooler than Northwood Up to 40% faster than Northwood AT THE SAME CLOCK Starting clock speed of 4GHz Scaling quickly to 5, 6, and 7GHz before Tejas, which will bring into 10GHz speeds Did anything happen?? Let's see: Early 2004 Quite hotter than Northwood -5% to +2% faster than Northwood 3.2GHz clock speed(same as Northwood at that time) Initially said to be 4.2GHz by mid-2004 just months before introduction, they delayed the 4.2GHz to early 2005. Then they said 4GHz only. Then they cancelled 4GHz. Then they cancelled Tejas. I would want Intel to do well. I think Yonah should be able to show that, and something wrong with Anandtech numbers, and they are not showing everything. No details about the test. I don't doubt the better battery life than Sonoma claim. I hope it becomes with the situation with the first 36GB Raptor drives how the initial versions were the slowest drives, and Western Digital got a newer version of the same drive and it came as the fastest drive ever. If its not though, then it continues the trend of mediocrisity.

OTOH, 975X chipset looks phenomenal and I hope this becomes the time when somebody gets and Intel board and they say: "You got an Intel board?? Why?" Like there was something wrong with and Intel board except poor overclocking features. The Asus and other mobos still have better OC options than 955XBK. Hopefully 975 changes that. The performance increase over 955X chipset is quite good. 4-10% in most apps, which is enough to cancel Prescott's mediocre performance and some. Addition of dual PCI-E 8x slots are excellent too. I doubt dual 16x really helps much, since graphics cards nowadays have so much RAM and memory bandwidth.

Can you guys even imagine a tweaked and OC'd D975XBX and Presler 950 with this installed? Talk about stability AND speed, this is going to be great for us and Intel. I am in the process of putting together the best gaming rig ever. I already have my Logitech G5 and hopefully 2 00FLC0 WD Raptors coming early next week (rev.4). I will of course be getting the D975XBX ASAP along with the 955EE Presler chip and also 2GB of Corsair RAM. By the end of February I should be finished along with 2 ATI cards in Crossfire.
