Well I have Vista Ultimate running w/4GB RAM. It runs smoother than XP and looks great. I like it. I am just torn to going to 64bit. After finding out almost all of my software and scanner won't work with 32bit anyway I am thinking I might as well. Intel doesn't have a BA2 BIOS for 64bit Vista yet but the LAN and chipset INF is fine. My HP printer and Logitech mouse are also going to be fine with 64bit. I do not see any need for 64bit right now and some games will run slower with it compared to 32bit Vista but alas I am using the X6800 so I don't care. I don't watch FPS to closely anyway. I think I should just go to 64bit and be done with it and not worry about having to redo my install all over again down the road. Any input welcome.

Hey Sandog, Ive been running XP x64 for about a year now. Though there are
some app and driver incompatabilities, I find x64 faster and more powerfull in
most cases. All my games work in x64. 90% of my apps work in x64 too. But
then again I do shop around for x64 apps. x64 does have a certain feel to it
that you just have to love. In regards as to vista x64, havent played with it
too much so I cant say much there.

PS ANyone here know how to enable 1333 strap on BX2.

So is the 505 just a 504 with bios update?

OK guys I recommend you stay away from the 2618 bios.
Reading about more problems invoving ATI crossfire to stop
working in VISTA, not sure about XP.

Problems with Controller? Cant find any devices

I just built my new Computer (my first) and have a Boot issue.

I have the D975XBX2 Board with the q6600 CPU.
When I start the Computer it is Scanning for Controller. Sometimes it just hangs up after a while - sometimes it gives me a :"Warning - Something wrong with Controller" Warning.

At other Times it will look for a bootable Device and then tells me
PXE-E61 Media Test Failure check cable
PXE-M6F Exiting Boot agent
No bootable Device

Well i changed out the cd drive (it shows up in BIOS) as well as the cable.

HELP, Whats the problem? The Motherboard is bad?

Well i disabled Ethernet in Bios and now the errors are gone - but Still nothing is found by Marvell 88SE61xx Controller.

Since all my hd's are empty I need to boot from CD (try to install Vista).
All my devices show up in Bios - and the boot order is CD, Floppy(dont have one), HD, Ethernet(i disabled that one).

So why cant marvell find a bootable device???

The marvell controller is the 'secondary sata controller' that you can disable. This board is great/terrible, depending on what you want out of it. I would suggest to all new system builders: start at page 1 of this forum and read all the way through. Lots of fluff and wastes 'o time, but lots of good benchmark info. Next, go to the overclocker forums, even if you don't want to overclock. I found, for example, that 800MHz memory needs special care; it's supported, but not supported. Also get the BIOS manual; there's not that many things you can change, but they may make a difference. Ethernet shouldn't stop a boot unless you're set to 'network boot'...?

The manual that came with my board said you can plug your SATA drive into any of the eight holes (excuse the tech jargon). That one stopped my first boot for a while.

Thanks for the new BIOS link Supa-Fly

I installed it and lost my video drivers. Upon reloading NVidia drivers all worked fine. This morning my computer failed to run though. Got the familiar 3 beeps so currently I am pulling RAM and playing with the BIOS jumper to get it started. I should have known better than to run 4 sticks of RAM at 2.12V. I also had my CPU at x12. Vista is pretty good and I haven't gotten into it to deeply yet. I don't need my digital cameral software anymore and may not need CD burning software any longer. Vista has support for the SigMatel audio chip but I am still waiting on Sonic Focus for Vista. Hope it comes. I like Windows Media Playa 11. I will probably give Vista 64bit a shot this weekend if I get my computy started he-he.

Hey all,

My computer started up fine this evening and sure enough my BIOS settings reverted back to non-SPD memory settings [15-5-5-5 and 1.84V] because of the new BIOS. I don't expect 4 sticks of 1GB RAM to run at 1.84V's. I put it back to 2.12V and all is well. I was tired yesterday and forgot to check my BIOS settings after flashing the upgrade.

I am off to install Vista again, this time 64bit. Great way to start off a 3-day weekend.

Sandog

Good Luck with that x64 Vista Install Sandog, keep us posted.
When I do evenually go vista it will be x64.

Anyway got a 8800 GTS yesterday, having problems benching in XP x64.
Im thinking that maybe I need to reinstall windows since I used my original
install when I went from BX1 to BX2. Maybe something is not quite right
somewhere. Getting some dominators on monday... cant wait... then I can
OC the **** out of this E6600, been to 3.9Ghz (unstable), wanna see if I can
get to 4Ghz stable with those sticks.
