Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

Got my two new ATI HD 3850's running. (Pic)

Glad I got the single slot cards as you can see there is not much room between them. They get very hot around the GPU. I read these will reach mid-90's C on the die. The second card stays cooler around the GPU during a 3DMark06 run. I think the primary card (DVI cable connected) does most of the work. Anyway, I am enjoying them for now. Not as fast as my 8800GTS at the moment but are quiet and working. Here's some benches.

Display settings 1280x1024 60Hz quality enabled.

8800GTS>WindowsXP
Lightsmark2007 134.5 FPS
3DMark06 8658
UT2004 Flyby 326 FPS/Botmatch 168 FPS

HD3850>WindowsXP
Lightmark2007 96.4 FPS
3DMark06 8965
UT2004 Flyby 426 FPS/Botmatch 158 FPS

8800GTS>Vista32Ultimate
Lightsmark2007 105.7 FPS
3DMark06 8352
UT2004 Flyby 277 FPS/Botmatch 137 FPS

HD3850>Vista32Ultimate
Lightmark2007 89.8 FPS
3DMark06 7208
UT2004 Flyby 237 FPS/Botmatch 135 FPS

Edit: ROTFLMAO, I didn't have CF enabled. Disregard the HD3850 benchies for now.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

Hi guys,

I've installed vista 32 bit, and now my system is stable. So I guess the problem was a driver incompability with the 64 bit system..

btw, the new marvell/matrix storage drivers, what fixes do they inc?
Should they fix my problem when running 64 bit?

grtz

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

Seems I have two sticks of memory that are sick. I've had problems with memory on and off for quite a while using 4 sticks. I've got two matched pairs and one set seems fine the other will not post. I have the two sets mingled and I thats what leads to problems for me. I looks like I can have one problem stick and one good stick and the machine boots. I ran memtest and got about 80 hits(red). Ran memtest on a single stick for each stick and two passed fine, two won't boot at all at default settings. Working with Corsair to see if they can check these sticks out for me. I was in the process of trying to sell them but I am finding out now they are not working properly. When I get this straightened out, I will try to get some new DDR3. I haven't been doing this but if you ever get new DDR sticks, it is wise to run a few passes of memtest on them to make sure they are working properly.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

If you use a floppy drive just download v1.70 from memtest86 site and install it to a floppy. Then restart you machine and have it boot to the floppy. Thats all.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

I installed the new Intel Marvel RAID/Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers for Vista x64 and had to reactivate Windows. And as if that was not a bad omen for the evening (Saturday night), I then applied the 2802 BIOS update and now I cannot boot my system if I have anything plugged into the Marvel controller, it just hangs with a blinking cursor after POST no matter if it is a hard drive or an optical drive connected to the Marvel controller. After two days fighting this I finally gave up and split up my two Raid arrays and went back to a single drives running on the Intel controller only. And then I had to reactivate Windows once more. What a pain

I should learn, if it ain't broke don't fix it

Frank

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

Sorry to hear about your problems. I could not get my DVDROM working properly with the Marvell controller when I first got my BA1 board. I wanted RAID solely on the Intel controller. Did you first hit 'CTRL+m' for the Marvell RAID configuration? You need to set up RAID on the drives before installing the OS or drivers. Hit 'CTRL+i' for the Intel controller config.

I would try Googling issues with the Marvell RAID installation on the BA2 if I were you. Here is a guide from Intel which may help you.
