I'm passing this driver up, in favor of the driver that has the Dolby Master Studio software in it.

Yes the 9800GX2 is two chips in SLI on one board, and from what I've seen so far each chip is going to have 512MB of memory with it.

I just put my 975XBX2 in, and had to reinstal Vista, as I couldn't boot with Nvidia chipset junk still in place.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

So far I'm impressed with the onboard audio. I listened to a few MP3's, and they sounded like they did on my HT Omega Claro. Haven't tested any games yet.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

I didn't have to download no chipset drivers or lan drivers from Intel, Windows Vista had those drivers built in, as well as the USB 2 drivers.

Played a round of Battle For Middle Earth 2, and I couldn't tell if there was any difference between the onboard with Dolby Surround sound, and my HT Omega Claro. The onboard sound is starting to look better and better.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

New driver for Windows Vista 32 and 64.

Intel® Desktop Board D975XBX2Â*Audio: IDT* 92XX Driver Operating Systems&lang=eng

I have the January driver for Vista 64 installed on my system presently.

I'm actually liking the onboard sound more and more, and it's nice to see Intel providing updated drivers on a regular basis for the onboard sound.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

Loaded the XP audio driver and it works great. It is easy to select Dolby or Sonic Focus on the top of IAS program. Both sound great but I like SF better. Make sure the big blue button is lit which ever you use. I don't believe I could ever have better sounding audio no matter what solution I had, it is that good to my ears.

The only problems I have with my audio setup are that the 2.1 speakers I use with sub-woofer. You can not test the subwoofer in IAS like you can the speakers but it is outputing sound. I don't understand why in Windows CP/Audio settings there is not a selection for 2.1 speaker setup. This may be the reason. I have to use the 'Desktop Speakers' selection which has no woofer. Also I can not record audio with IAS like I want because I use a USB MIC and not one that plugs into the microphone jack on the BA2.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

The reason they don't have a setting in the Windows Control Panel/Audio Settings for 2.1, is that 2.1 speakers are considered stereo speakers.

I installed the latest Vista 64 driver, with Dolby Surround control built in to the IDT Audio control app, enabled Dolby Surround, set for 5.1 sound, and set the equalizer along with enabling on the Vista 64 Control Panel/Audio settings, 24 bit 48K Studio sound, and I was good to go.

This onboard sound comes really close to the quality of my HT Omega Claro, which is why I haven't even bothered putting my HT Omega Claro back in.

Another thing I like, is that the onboard sound driver gives me 5.1 sound on Vista 64, where as audio input on my HT Omega Claro is 2 channel input to the card only on Vista 64, and then the Claro, via it's driver outputs the 2 channel sound to 5.1.

Gonna be reinstalling my games, including Dungeon Siege 2 Broken World, which never worked on the SLI board, to see if I can get DS2: Broken World to run without any problems. There are also other games, I want to install and see if I can get them to work, now that I dumped SLI.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

Is there a setting in IDT for 2.1? I haven't looked yet. Hopefully there is. Not sure but wouldn't IAS over ride IDT's app.? I installed the new driver last night and I have IAS in the systray now and not IDT. They both enable Dolby it appears. Glad you like the audio. Have you tried Sonic Focus enabled yet? Try it while listening to an mp3 file. This is where it really shines. No problems in games either. Do you have a mic?

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

In the IDT control panel all you can select is Stereo speakers(2.1), Qudraphonic(4.1), 5.1 and 7.1.

When you install the driver for all operating systems, which include 32bit XP, 64bit XP, and 32bit and 64bit Windows, it defaults to the IDT control panel, which has Dolby Surround in it. With the unified driver, as some people call it there is no IAS.

If you are using the driver that is just for WindowsXP 32bit and XP 64bit, you will not have IDT, unless you are willing install the driver for all OS'S.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

Here's the page to download the correct driver for the Intel 82573L Lan chip, aka the Intel Pro/1000PL. The lan driver that's listed on the driver download page for the 975XBX2 is actually the wrong driver, and will not install. I found this out for myself.

Download Search Results

The link above is for the 64bit vista version. Here's the page to select the driver for whatever OS you use, which will then take you to the approiate page to download the 82573L(Intel Pro/1000 PL) driver for what ever Windows OS you use.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

I finally decided and went with this board. I do have a question though. I have it up and running but in device manager it shows under "other devices" serial ATA controller with a yellow exclamation mark. Did I forget to install a certain driver maybe marvell raid? please let me know which driver I need to to install and how to do it as I already have windows vista installed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

The other devices SATA controller is for the Marvell Raid, it will have a yellow exclamation point until you actually install the drivers for the Marvell raid.

Here's the page on which to download the latest drivers for the Marvell Raid.

Intel® Desktop Board D975XBX2Â*RAID: Marvell* Driver

I currently have Marvell Raid disabled in the bios, as I don't really have a need for it at this point and time.
