Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

Yesterday I noticed a fourteen degree difference between my Bad Axe 1 game machine and my Bad Axe II.
The "processor zone" reading on the BAII was 38c while on the BAI it was 52c.
I just checked again and it's still true.

Might have to crack the case today, although I recently had it open for "dust maintenance".

Should be getting my new heat sink tomorrow or Thursday. As long as it clears my Corsair Dominators I think I will really like it.

Are you aware what you talking about? No.
I mean CPU stock heatsink on not OC comp.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

Hi Panz,

It was on my non-overclocked E6600's on which I had to replace the stock HSF's.
They were running quite warm - in the mid 60's. It was only when I installed the Zalman's that the temps came down to reasonable levels.

If the newer Intel HSF's can get the job done I'm good with that (since they're really easy to install) but I'd have to see some data. Otherwise, I'm just going to install a Zalman every time.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

Yes. Probably. But if you have bad case design, the CPU heatsink is not responsible.
If you have "dead zones" around the CPU, the temperatures may be higher too. i.e. the problem have many sides, you see.

There is many points to follow also, when you assemble. Do you read the original Intel docs how to assemble the CPU and the heatsink? Do you follow these rules? Do you read how to apply the thermal grease-in which direction (see the Arctic Cooling web pages)?

Yes, I know-the original heatsink has thermal grease by itself

Zalman is not the best option... .

I'd hardly think it's my case, since both of my Antec P180's have very good airflow around the CPU. Another point is that when we replaced the Intel HSF's with the Zalman's the temps dropped precipitously.
I'm not alone in this experience, as it was the people that contribute to this very thread that pointed out their own, similar experiences which prompted me to go the Zalman route with my E6600's.

Yes, we followed Intel's and Arctic's instructions. This isn't my first rodeo, cowboy. Mrs. TQ and I have been building our own PC's for around twelve years.

I have the cooler running CPU's to dispute your contention. They ran hotter with the Intel HSF's, they run cooler with the Zalman's.
What additional evidence does one need?

I lot more than you. I've been building my own computers for over 15 years, and have noticed that when I put a third party cooler on, such as the Silent 775D, the cpu runs cooler than if the Intel cooler was used.

Before both cores of my cpu were running 50C with the Intel heatsink, and then after I put the Silent 775D the temps on both cores dropped 10C.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

"...I've been building my own computers for over 15 years."
->That is not argument for anything.

What you think-Intel will produce faulty and ineffective cooler for one of their bestselling product, and wait for your arriving to improve the situation?? 60C is high for you, but it is high for the Intel too?

I never had any problem with the stock cooler on not OC machines.
But my attention is on the case design, cable management and inside airflow.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

As Mrs. TQ pointed out to me yesterday that it's been well over twelve years that we've been building our own and yes, it is an argument that any experienced system builder can make, since it points out that one of the hundreds of considerations made over that time as regards a build is CPU temp.
And yes, I do believe that a temp in the mid-60's is too high, as it was Intel's own Desktop Utilities that alerted me to the fact that it (my own Intel motherboard) considered the over 60c temp too high. Who am I to argue with my motherboard?

You appear to be suggesting that in all the years we've been building computers that we haven't given thought to the basics and I've pointed out that we have, it's just that we've come to a different conclusion than you.

This is a really rather pointless discussion, panzerino. You seem comfortable with the performance of the stock HSF and Mrs. TQ and I (and ATINUT) prefer that of the Zalman.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

You must fight with arguments.
American type of phrases like " Believe me", " I believe you", "I'm 20 yrs in this business" means nothing. For me.
