Ah, humorless. I'd never have guessed.

Taking a look at the link you sent, if I understand you correctly, the point you're making is that the maximum case temperature for the E6600 is 60 degrees.
If I am assume that the processor zone temperature read by the Intel Desktop Utilities is the same thing as maximum case temperature then anything over 60c exceeds Intel's recommended maximum.
Therefore, anything higher than maximum would be bad, yes? Then taking steps to lower that reading to something below maximum would be good, would it not?
And further, consistently running one's CPU at the maximum recommended temps really can't be all that good an idea, seeing as how if a fan fails and one doesn't catch it for some time - and one has no headroom built into one's temps - one could possibly damage one's CPU.

I had a fan fail a couple of days ago. My CPU zone never got to 60c, even with a dead exhaust fan. I was able to replace the fan and continue along my merry way without having ever come close to the maximum recommended case temp.

I'd think that was a good thing.

No offense against you, but tt's time we go this thread back on topic. It's about the 975XBX motherboards, including the 975XBX2.

Well, my CPU's are mounted on Bad Axe's. I think we're still quite on topic. Even if we're not why should every post be limited to just talking specifically about motherboard issues? Where's the fun in that?

You're right, but I'm getting tired of that other joker.

I'm not by the way having any issues with my 975XBX2, which is more than I can say for the ASUS board I had.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

We went went Intel boards exclusively years ago, right after a system we built with a VIA chipset went south. We've never looked back.
I might be tempted by, say, an ASUS board with an Intel chipset but when it gets down to it I'd probably stay with Intel-built.
We've built, oh, jeez...fifteen or so systems with Intel manufactured boards now? Maybe more? In all that time I've had only one fail (an early rev 875) and Intel RMA'd it, no problem.
Love 'em, just love 'em.

I believe I've found the best thermal conducter material.

Not cheap.

Here's a better description of the material.

http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/..._info_0105.pdf

Page 8 in particular.

This material spreads the heat over the x-y plane very well.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

I switched my drives over to AHCI mode last night, using the Vista registry edit, and enabled AHCI and I've noticed my SATA drives perform better. I even installed the latest AHCI/RAID drivers from Intel.

Directories open a lot faster than they did before. Haven't really noticed anything that I could tell where games are concerned.

Could you please provide details of the edit?

Here ya go.

Error message when you start a Windows Vista-based computer after you change the SATA mode of the boot drive: "STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE"

That's the Microsoft Knowledge Base article on said subject.

Re: Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe)

I'm not sure if I should update to the latest bios for the 975XBX2 or not.

I'm not having any problems at present with my board, where I should even bother attempting to flash the bios of my 975XBX2.

If you are having no problems and everything is running smoothly then there really is no point or reason to update your BIOS.
