Hey Bud,

Yes the LAN driver install has improved along with the drivers hopefully. If you click on the executable a graphical install screen appears with 3 options. 1.Install Drivers, 2. Install Boot Agent and Windows Diagnostics, 3. Read the Release Notes. I read the notes and installed drivers. This was right on top of the existing drivers. I did not go to device manager and select update drivers on the Intel Pro 1000 LAN device and search for the driver folder. Nice!

Also there is a new version of IDCC out.

idcc_2.0.0018.exe

Got my SB X-Fi Platinum installed. Word is: Intitial/first impression of hardware is excellent. Impression of software is very good also. No AOL icons LOL. The software is much nicer than the last version but I've only used the Creative Smart Recorder to adjust my mic volume and see how it records (all I have are headphones until my amp. gets repaired). First try was awesome, records great and at half volume level. More options in this app. then the last Creative MediaSource such as hiss reduction and auto level set plus it seems to work and feel better while also looking nice. As far as audio quality I only heard the splash screen audio and then talked on MSN but I can hear my buddy a lot clearer and even myself talk since there is no noise. He also can turn his speakers down since my mic volume is normal now. Anyway, took all of one hour to tear the beast down and install the new card although I've counted and this is my 4th SB Platinum setup if you can believe that so I've had experience (Live!, AudigyI, AudigyII ZS, X-Fi). Anyway, here are some pics, enjoy

I will probably get FEAR later and I still have Silent Hunter 3 to try out. It is surprising how the quality of the card (gold connectors and tons of quality capacitors on black PCB) with this new technology is only costing the exact same as the last Platinum edition. It appears to do it's job very well and all is good so far. If you like SB cards, this one seems to be a major upgrade from the previous version. The audio card is totally redesigned but the Live Drive with the Platinum edition hasn't changed except for the faceplate. I would say this new card is a must have for D875PBZer's who like to game and would like to top their system out some more.

By the way TQ, I have the initial card setup up as 'entertainment mode'. It would be nice if the card could auto-switch between this mode and the 'gaming mode'. Below is a high quality introduction to the card and it's features. Look to the bottom for pics of the cool software and abundant setting selections. You will see the difference the 3 available modes have. Also interesting was the SB history comparison. Read on.

Interesting...an auto-switch mode that's application dependent. I wonder how that could be implemented?
I have to admit that I'm using my X-Fi for game audio only. I didn't even install the MediaSource stuff and I stay in game mode all the time.

Video cards can switch to different game modes or models when the game loads if I am not mistaken. Also I use to have to load SB MediaSource but now that Creative Smart Recorder is a separate program I don't have to. I only installed drivers, diagnostics, and speaker calibrator (not THX). I only use 2.1 speaker system. There is a lot of exploring and listening for me to do yet and so far I really like what I see and hear.

Auto-switching modes would be a good feature to implement in a future driver update. I'll swing by CL's forum and make a post about it.

Very happy with the SoundBlaster X-Fi for now and I do not even have my speakers running, just headphones. I also think the SB audio software is a lot leaner and down to business if you ask me.

For D955XBK owners I want to note that you can not remove Intel Audio Studio software which is one of the reasons I am reformatting my system. IAS is great software and the SigmaTel audio chip is one of the best but it is not going to be quite as good sounding or have as many features as the SB card. Is there a $175 difference? That depends on you.

Holy smokes Batman those are nice pics, be sure to go to the second page link at the bottom. Notice the two ATI cards (Crossfire) and of course Corsair memory

Thanks RobPuba (Chineseski)

I see that u've got X-Fi Platinum the one without X-Ram. However in the picture above i see something like a mem chip above the core. Am i true?

Mine is the Platinum version and I believe it has some RAM but not 64MB like the Elite-Pro version. I am really impressed with the card. The audio software has been vastly improved. Compared to past SB cards you seem to get more than you payed for not only in software but a vastly improved audio card. Highly recommend the card. Coincidentily the volume know in the Creative Mixer looks just like the volume knob on my new keyboard. Man I love hardware and also I finished with the new system software install last night.
