I was almost as big of an Intel Fanboy as Sandog, until I saw their most recent commercial and read about their marketing strategy to make it sound like using Intel processors in "boring little computers" was simply a waste of their time an energy.

I'm aware they just got a new CEO whose trying to revitalize the company's image, but I don't think detracting from your roots is the way to accomplish this task. Intel, IMHO, has always been synonymous with reliability which I cherish as much as the speed. I'm afraid this new marketing campaign intimating Intel as the everything company when it comes to computing, science, the exploration of space, dogfood and the like will do nothing but detract even further from a company that's currently getting it's butt severely kicked by AMD.

Oh I'm still loyal as I have been to my college football team for the last 30+ years, but they will never win a National Championship. I'm seriously afraid Intel will only suffer from their current campaign and strategy. I also hope, like Sandog, that the 975 chipset coupled with the Conroe processor is finally a true competition for AMD and will be as successful as the 875 and Northwood C were; but without the proper marketing campaign coupled with consumer interest chalk another win up for AMD

Holy Cow! Sandog been busy! But busy hands are happy hands!

Enjoy the latest freebie!

I could be tempted to change to system parts with different numbers if they were free

Oh and BTW, the diff in smoothness I notice on the 865 vs 875 is running both at the same time on KVM and switching back and forth doing the similar tasks.

AFAIK, that was an Apple commercial - not an Intel commercial. I thought Intel was even shocked by it.

You are correct that it was an Apple commercial. And I recall reading or hearing that Intel was plenty POed about it.

Well, came home and a big ol' box was cocked up in the corner of the front porch. Was it the X1900XTX? Take a look.

Anyway......You are exactly correct Sandog------Intel has not really added anything to the pot since their tremendous jump to Northwoods, 800FSB and the 875/865 chipset.

Since then------been pretty mundane.....

I still use a 3.2 Northwood on an Abit IC7 (875 Mobo)----the overclocked performance is astounding and I can still match benches with almost all the latest Intel stuff------and it's been almost three years!

The last of the great "good deals".......
Welcome to the Intel chipset threads.

If the new Conroe EE outperforms the 955EE/965EE's then that would be a big waste of design hours and money. They might as well cancel the 9XXEE's.
I don't know about what you think Sandog, but if Conroe EE does not outperform D955EE's, Intel is gonna be screwed for another 3-4 years. And this time its not gonna be good.

Of course, good news for them, as I am confident not only Conroe EE will be faster, most of the mainstream will be faster too.

Hey Intel_user,

Got your PM's. I'm not worried about erata unless it causes my games to crash.

Well I took some pictures tonight and played around with the board some and guess what? I like this board. I know, I know, it's very hard to believe but it's true. The power circuitry looks better than ever and not too huge. I hope it is efficient though. Each of those bluish VR heat sinks are soldered to the board by two very thick posts. They are not coming off. The rest of the board is very nice also as you can see in the pics below. I hope the Conroe will work in it later on but I won't worry about that now. Tomorrow I will probably be shooting pics of a red card. Going to be fun installing the new mobo and video card this weekend. I have a long list of other fixes and changes I want to do inside my case as well when I tear it apart.

These are all pics of the D975XBXLKR box contents.

Thanks all for the Congrats on the new board. I plan to support this product through this ongoing thread which hopefully can benefit Intel back in some small way.

Thanks for the pics Sandog.
I'm glad to see PS-2 ports on that puppy. I was afraid it wouldn't have 'em.
(No I haven't been out to look at specs yet...)

I have 2 KVM's here that are PS-2.
All the new Dell's we are getting at work, (GX 280's and 520's) don't have any PS-2 ports on them. They are 945 based boards.

I was afraid my KVM's were going to be obsoleted.
