If you remember there is a special Doom3 update on the driver CD. I may load this when I get my amplifier back.

Might be playing with a Presler and Bad Axe by Christmas.

"In addition, the launch of Intel’s high-end 975X chipset will be pushed up from the first quarter of 2006 to the middle of this November, the sources indicated."

Source:http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20051109A7031.html

Actually I remember this a long time ago when Intel released the 875P chipset. The chipset was out way before Intel's mobo was out. This means boards like the Gigabyte might be out soon but the D975XBX might not be available until Jan/Feb. No new word on when the Presler chips will debut.

If true, this bodes well for a nicely refined 975 chipset/motherboard by the time I decide to build.

Over here at Tom's Hardware http://www.tomshardware.com/motherbo..._i975x-01.html they say the 975X supports Conroe "with platform refresh only"
Any idea on what that is eluding to?

Bit of a pity is behind NVidia with the release of the newer NForce4 with dual x16 lanes as opposed to this platforms dual x8, they are still a tad behind in this regard.

By the way, retailers here are advertising Preslers for sale, due January 5th 2006. So no doubt they will be available there sooner.

Well this early I think it is impossible to say that it will support Conroe. We don't even have Presler out yet. I think the 975X chipset was released prematurely and in time for OEM's and board makers to make Christmas gifts. As far as 2x16 PCIe slots go I am still curious what Intel will come out with on their own board which is the only board I am ever interested in . Intel has desire and money to implement both dual graphics technologies but NVidia is sitting pretty right now and it might be hard for them to license the same x16 speed to another chipset much less another chipset that wants to also run it's competitors solution. As far as I have seen Intel is the only one who can run Crossfire, not even ATI can right now so like I said NVidia is sitting in the driver seat. What could happen is the Intel board will run x8 and Crossfire like the Gigabyte but still do NVidia SLI at 2x8.

I might add that the D975 chipset is really useless unless there is a better chip to go with it. If all your going to run is a 6xx chip then get the 915. DC's are not really enthusiast chips right now since they are clocked lower unless you get the EE chip which does +30 EBIM but then you need $$$ for the chip and cooling. A dual core Presler should go sky high though with this mobo and have decent benchmarks with 4MB of cache.

It's just "news". I'm fairly certain that Intel can work it out, as it is emerging technology.

I find it hard to believe really. First Intel has an easy job to find out if the chips are at least stable enough to get past the system vendors, I mean c'mon. Intel has a lot on the line with Presler and I doubt they would release a bad chip especially when it has been sounding like the .65nm process has been so successful. I am sure this story is presently being corroborated and facts found out so we will learn for sure if this story has any merit.

The Presler (stepping B1) runs fine on the Gigabyte GA-G1975x board.

I do have connections at Dell currently but most of my information comes from my previous HP/Compaq/AST relationships and a few others.

Hey bingo13 welcome to the thread.

So how is the performance with the new Presler compared to the 8xx chips? Any other tidbits you can discuss are welcome. Thanks.

In case you haven't read this already from the INQ., it looks like it will be possible to get a 975X mobo with both SLI and Crossfire technologies.

I will have hard numbers available early next week along with a couple of other surprises. The Intel 975x is a very good chipset in the hands of the right motherboard supplier.
