Are you referring to the green power LED on the mobo? That is suppose to always be lit if you have the AC plugged into the power supply and the power supply is connected to the mobo. Also if you have fooled with the BIOS jumper in anyway, make sure you put it on correctly. It goes on the two pins facing away from the DIMM sockets. Also you will need the 4pin power connector hook-up near the CPU (2x2molex) and the 1x4molex near the video card. | |

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) Actually I ran 1066 at 7 7 7 20 and at 9 9 9 24, at 1.55, 1.6 and 1.7 volts. The auto detected (when I clear the BIOS completely, which doesn't help the boot issue) is 7 7 7 20 at 1.55v. The RAM is rated at 9 9 9 24 1.6v, for whatever that's worth. This issue doesn't appear to be RAM, but I don't have any DDR3 to replace it with to make sure, so it's hard to really say. I'm not even posting properly, so I'm thinking I got a bad BIOS on this board (bad chip).. but then thinking gets me in trouble on Fridays.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) Hey Guys, I've just got this board today, plugged it all in and it's worked like a dream, no problems so far. Running XP with: DP45SG Q9650 CPU 1x 300GB Velociraptor 2x 1GB 1375MHz DDR3 Non-ECC Low-Latency CL7 (7-7-7-20) HyperX, looks like it's running in the CL9's in the BIOS at 1.55v but i've just left it as it was. Sapphire HD 3870 Ultimate and All on a 380W power supply as they sent the wrong one! but it's still cool :-D

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) Welcome to the forum SDAve, What kind of heat sink are you using for the CPU? I might try lowering my VDDR later.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) Well i'm currently using the one that came with the chip, but was thinking of getting a bit of a beefier one, like the Zalman CNPS9500. However, I am a bit of a novice, so i'm still looking in to it. The case seems to run quite cool at the moment tho, but haven't done much with it yet.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) The issue with my external drives being plugged-in during boot and preventing POST only happens after recovery mode or first-boot. I was messing with RAM timings, and when it didn't work itdid the 3-bootup recovery thing. When it recovered to the splash screen, it got stuck at post code BA again. So yeah, unplug any unnecessary external drives when you're booting this first-time or if you're messing around with memory. Havredave, your problems are between the Skyburg, PSU, or RAM. You'll never know which until you start swapping-in known-good parts. Oh by the way, I totally didn't plug-in the 1x4-pin molex, from what I remember. I'll doublecheck when I get home. Sounds like I've had some of the most success, but I still wouldn't recommend not doing that. One more thing: yes, Sandog, I can't go lower than 9-9-9 @ 1333. No big whoop, my previous computer ran at 400 FSB, so I would say 1333 is a great improvement, nevermind a few timing adjustments. Last edited by lethargy : 09-19-2008 at 05:01 PM.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) I don't think he's right about the 2x16. He's a doof and doesn't even run the board LOL. Blue SATA (UV) He sells harder than I do plus I have a clue hehe.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) I did try replacing the PSU (with a 600w completely different brand one), so that's out. I'm down to motherboard, CPU or RAM. I'm putting my donuts..err, money on the motherboard, but I'm going to hold out until the BIOS update mentioned coming out (possibly) on the 23rd. If that doesn't fix it, I'll likely RMA it and start over. Hopefully I can get some replacement DDR3 in by then too.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) I've seen your symptoms caused by both RAM and mobo, but I've never seen something exhibiting that sort of behavior be fixed by a BIOS update. I'd just RMA it if possible--this is most likely a DOA board. If the BIOS update were to fix anything causing it, it would be issues between your mb and RAM.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) I share your thoughts about it being most likely just a bad board, lethargy. I'll let Intel's techs go through things with me once, then get a new one on the way. I might even get a new one on the way regardless, since the price isn't really horrific, and I'll use it elsewhere.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) Are you sure you updated the BIOS correctly? You can read your BIOS version in CPU-Z (latest version, free download). Or you can go into Main in BIOS and read it. If it says 0083 you are good. You need a thumbdrive and patience to update.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) Well, I just ordered 2 systems. The parts will be here mid to the end of next week. I will post my results when I have the systems assembled.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) What a great community! I just googled for "review of DP45SG" and found my way to this site. I think I'll stay.... I've been researching a good motherboard for my first self-built system. I had a hunch that the DP45SG would be a decent board given the Intel name, P45, and its positioning at the top of their motherboard offerings. I thought it would be worth exploring it to host a Q9550 proc. After reading every post on this thread, I can't say that I am inspired with confidence. I don't think want to try the DP45SG as my first. Seems like its sensitive to particular memory brands and has some startup/shutdown problems. I appreciate the Sandog posts and others. Very informative. Now that I've bookmarked this site, I hope to see you guys on other threads as I research for a good mobo. Selbie

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) Boys, All these mobos needs a GOOD PSU. Good means, Power@Cooling or Seasonic (Corsair). Means also not bellow some W... usually above 500-600. Very good choice here (and many people does not know this) are the "basic" Seasonic PSU, like these: :::: Sea Sonic :::: Welcome to Seasonic USA SS-650HT Active PFC, or SS-550HT Active PFC And RAM fully matched the Intel specifications: Intel® Desktop Board DP45SG - System memory Most of your problems are not BIOS problem. They are RAM problems or PSU problems (not able to go to the sleep mode). It is known, that, most of the Intel mobo does not likes the "games" with the memory voltages or so on. Rest them at "auto". Do not play with them. Just buy the right RAM, according to the Intel page! Sometime wrong wiring or wrong connection of the case cables give unexpected and strange troubles and behaviour. Look also here: http://download.intel.com/support/mo...3001601_en.pdf p.44, how to connect the front panel power LED. Last edited by panzerino : 09-20-2008 at 06:07 AM.
