Pretty sleek looking box.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Let us know how good the onboard sound on your board is Sandog. I'm curious how good it is, considering it I believe is using the new IDT HD audio chip.

I'd like to know how good it is as well, I'm eager to toss my X-Fi XtremeMusic.

Some board pics. There are 3 jumpers on the board (SPI, CMOS, BIOS Config.)

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Not there yet. Last night I installed all the hardware. I could not use the Intel QX9650 HSF, the LGA-775 socket is too close to the board edge and the heat sink bumps my top 140mm case fan. I installed an older stock Intel HSF with large copper core and .28A Sanyo-Denki fan. Temps were around 41C in BIOS (1.25V core @ 3.0GHz.)

The memory is giving me grief ATM. It comes up as 1333 9-9-9-24 1.5V. If I change it it won't boot. There are several other memory settings which I have no clue on ATM. Ran Memtest86 all night long, think it did 10 passes and I got 6 errors but I am not worried about the few errors right now since my memory (2x2GB) is running at 1.5V. The memory is working IMO but I am wishing I had bought 1333 now instead of 1600. Anyway I will get it ironed out later.

My board has the latest 083 BIOS. The BIOS is sweet. It's very different from the BA board and feels like a very modern chipset. There are 3 options in the post screen (boot PXE, boot BIOS, Boot Config.) When you enter BIOS it beeps. When you save BIOS is closes and the computer shuts off completely and then restarts (good for OC IMO.) I've only really looked at memory in the BIOS and it looks yummy. It has the most settings I have ever seen from an Intel board. Haven't started processor settings and will only open it to take pics as I do not plan on OC this board ATM. I will try to get BIOS pics up of every page later.

Some other notes, there are labels to all connectors on the board which is nice. The box comes with very little. There is only 2 SATA cables and I need at least 3. There is no user manual. Ofcourse there is no IDE/Floppy cables either. This board appears extremely capable which is all you are paying for really.

User reviews of the X48 audio have said it is outstanding and this board should be better. I am happy all the hardware is working sofar. I will install Vista Ultimate 64bit tonight. Then I will be able to get some more pics up.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Some other peculiarities. There are 6 USB ports on the back panel and there are 3 more USB headers on the mobo (6 more ports) but there are no extra rear panel brackets/cables. Fortunately I have an Intel rear panel USB bracket. I also bought a rear panel Serial port bracket which I am using. The SATA ports are grouped as follows: The four connectors together on the board are labeled SATA 0,2,4, and 5. The SATA port above the CMOS battery is SATA 1. The rear SATA is eSATA. There is no SATA 3. Also the 24pin power connector is turned around from my BA board. All connectors/headers/jumpers have changed from the BA board. The power LED is at the bottom of the board now and is a very bright green.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

In the above post, changing memory settings does boot but I get the Yes/No to use previous settings option from previous post not working. I have only changed memory once and that was to 7-7-7-21 1.8V. There is no option to run at 1600, 1333 is the highest memory buss this board supports. Once I get Vista working I will re-visit the memory settings.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Hmm, me thinks Intel messed up a bit, and I'm hoping they put out a new bios for the board that properly supports 1600MHZ DDR3.

The X48BT2 uses the same IDT 9274 codec that my D975XBX2 uses. I'm seriously considering going to the onboard sound. My soundcard is so freakin loud with Dolby Pro Logic II enabled it isn't even funny, and I don't even have the soundcard volume and the volume for my speakers all the way up.

No they didn't mess up. This board will never support 1600FSB and I knew that. But I bet my paycheck this board will OC as high or higher than the P35 chipset board did. I bought 1600 memory to allow headroom and future proof my purchase more. I am fine with running at 1333 with this board but I will not settle for 9-9-9-24 if I don't have to.

The thing that will probably get me going is some guidance on these extra memory settings from SuperTalent, Intel, or reviews. Like I said I will post a pic later of the settings available. Also, Intel tech. support wrote me that they are releasing the new tuning utility shortly. I also got a yellow slip in the Intel box, these are notes on changes to the product shortly (got yellow slips before in Intel boxes.) It says that IDCC is not ready yet but coming.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

I see now. Should have looked at the specs for the board a bit closer on Intel's website.

What I like about the memory I have on my board, is that it's capable of running it's performance timings at the default voltage of 1.8, though Mushkin says when overclocking using the memory I've got, not to go beyond 2.1 volts, or you void the warranty.

I hope you gets things straightend out with the memory.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Hopefully I'll have better luck with my Patriot Viper 1333MHz. I'm still waiting for the motherboard to be available, would be nice if newegg gets it.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Loaded Vista Friday and was up and running. Feel lucky though as the memory will only work at one setting (9-9-9-24-1.9V.) Also system will not restart, I have to manually turn it off then back on again. Hardware wise those are the only issues so far. I believe this board needs a new BIOS desperately. I took BIOS pics and will try to post them later this evening.

Software wise all my old Word documents are unreadable now, I guess that's because I'm using 2007/64bit.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Sandog, like always, trying to kidding us... I will never get the 4 GB DDR3 for 180E, when 4GB DDR2 shall cost me 60E. Never! Like all of us see, Sandog has had the memory problems. Welcome to the Intel. They test unknown brand memory, nobody able to find.
Intel® Desktop Board DP45SG - System memory

Please tell me who sell this "Elpida" brand in Europe????

Sandog, please be more objective-we are able to read advertising every day.
No need for advertising in favour to Intel here... .
