Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

Has anyone used the new IDCC for the x38 on Vista 64? Intel's website says Vista 32.

Thanks.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

I also had an identical problem.

Disabling the Secondary SATA in the BIOS eliminated the "Marvell Adaptor" error message on boot, but I still have another problem which hopefully, is just as easy to fix.

Backing up a bit...

First Boot w/ XP Pro Installation disk:
No apparent problems, Able to format the HD and begin XP install of "installation files.

First re-boot during installation routine:
Here's where things went south. I received the message about the Marvell Adapter,

Ctrl-Alt-DEL'd: and was presented with a second screen...
"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.
Please check Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information."

I'm still getting the second screen when I boot.

In the BIOS "Boot" section, the Hitachi HD is recognized, but not the LG DVD Writer. The unit is on the IDE channel and set to "Master".

If I can get it to recognize the DVD I can start from scratch...maybe.

Other than puling the unit apart and trying another optical drive, does anyone have any work-around for this?

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

I'll being sending my RAM in for a RMA already. I've been having stability issues since I built this system. I moved to XP Pro from XP 64 thinking it might be something with the drivers. That didn't work so I finally got around to running memtest. Sure enough, I get plenty of errors with one stick...

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

Hello Folks,

I recently purchased this motherboard for a new build and I am encountering an issue that I am hoping someone can help me with. I am unable to install the Chipset Utility Drivers.

I was able to install Windows XP and it loaded alright but none of the components that are controlled by the ICH9 chipset are loaded correctly in the device manager (i.e. the USB hubs, the PCI slots, etc).

My first attempt (of course) was to install the chipset utility drivers from the CD. It got to 100% and then displayed that the installation failed. The install program doesn't even say why it failed.

So I decided to download the drivers from Intel's site. It is an executable file but the install instructions are kind of vague. The readme that is posted with the download doesn't even seem to be about this file.

Anyway, when I try to run the executable it immediately returns an error to the effect of:

"the application failed to start because it's not the proper type of application."

I don't even know how to begin tackling that problem! I have not found any other information regarding this problem, but if anyone can give me any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

Regards,

I haven't installed SP2 yet. That would be great if it fixes the problem with the USB hub controllers. Do you think that the other issues could be caused by the same thing? I really need to be able to install the chipset drivers, it would defeat the purpose of having this board if I couldn't.

By the way the exact error I am receiving when trying to run the downloaded file is: "The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Thank you for your help.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

Thanks for your help Bounty. I contacted Intel Tech support and they confirmed that installing SP2 should fix the issue.

On a seperate note. I read in earlier posts that some people have succeeded in replacing the Northbridge Chipset's Heatsink by "adding heat". How do you add heat? are you putting a blowtorch up to it?

I originally wanted to replaced the heatsink with an Extreme Spirit but when it would not budge easily, I just assumed it was glued on. If there is a safe way to do it that will not harm my motherboard I would love to try it.

Thank you all again.

I had to do a fresh install of the operating system.

Has anyone heard any news on the dx48bt release date? I am hoping it is this month so I can build my new system!

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

I think we're close to new game machine time. I'm looking at a DX38/DX48 Intel-built board, an E6850 and some Mushkin performance DDR3 whenever they get it to market.
I'll migrate the 8800GTX and my HD's over and maybe make the jump to Vista.

Say, anyone know off-hand if the DX's support IDE optical drives and if there's a PCI slot for my X-Fi?
