Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

I've had the X48 board for about 3 weeks now. I am getting lots of cold boots. I have 4 sticks of Gskill memory at 1 gb a piece pc1600 ram. I've run memtest and the sticks are fine. I tried changing the timmings in the bios from auto to 1333/333 and the vdimm from the default 1.5 all the way to 1.9. I changed the timmings from 9-9-9-24 to 7-7-7-18 Nothing seems to work. Once I'm in windows its rock solid no problems no reboots nothing. It just when I turn the computer on, I would say it happens at least 50% of the time I turn the computer on. I'm using the latest bios as well. When I use just 2 sticks it seems fine I haven't had a problem, and I've tried all 4 sticks using just 2 at a time and it was fine. Its only when I have all 4 in that I get these problems. Anyone else having this issue??

Thanks

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

This board can only support DDR3 1600 memory in slots 1&3 for dual channel.

I can't think of anything else to try, as I don't own this board, but own the D975XBX2.

Yeah but if I lower the memory to 1333 speeds in all 4 slots shouldn't that work?

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

Ok it just booted. I put the vdimm to 2.02 volts and the northbridge from 1.2 volts to 1.3 volts. I wonder why it needs so much power for 4 sticks...

Not true. Everest scan on XMP profile #1 shown.....you need to raise
northbridge voltage to handle 4 sticks....

Horsehockey. Intel was the one that said, it can only do DDR3 1600 in slots 1&3. If you have a problem take it up with them.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

It works fine now :-) Vdimm didn't need to be changed, set it to default 1.9 volts and I raised the northbridge voltage from 1.250 to 1.350 now its rock stable :-)

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

If I was building another system right now, I would either go with this board, the X38BT, or try and find me another 975XBX2 and build another DDR2 Quad Core system.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

Intel discontinued their X38 board long ago, the X48 is the X38(II) or the X38 on steroids. If you don't mind paying $250 and having a 50C NB then the X48 is superb. Intel Tech. Support told me a utility program is coming out for this board (still under development.) I think they were referring to the new version of IDCC. If you want to run at 1600MHz FSB then I would definitely get this board. The latest PCN is odd though and I would want to know more before I bought this board.

BTW, I bought 1600 DDR3 because my 1333 2x2GB wasn't in stock but if/when I get the DP45SG board I will run at 1333 FSB. Hopefully the board will be around by Sept. 9th.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

Sandog, is it true that the D975XBX2 like the X38BT was discontinued. That has me concerned, as my D975XBX2 is a really decent board, and I don't like the idea of possibly not having anymore driver updates.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

Yes the board has been discontinued but support will be ongoing for a while. The board has very stable drivers and BIOS after almost 2yrs. I would have kept mine but I wanted a Penryn quad core. I like the X48 because it has been around almost a year and has improved stability now. I also have 1600DDR3 RAM to play with but I think I am more concerned about power consumption than I am OCing. I am worried about using the DP45SG with DDR3 AND Vista Ultimate 64bit though. Most current P45 chipset boards are DDR2, the DDR3 versions aren't playing well and Intels board has been delayed but I am still counting on getting it.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

I was wondering on that. The more I hear about Intel's entry in to the graphics card market next year, the more I want to hold off on getting a quad core, as there is the possibility, that Intel's entry in to the graphics card market, will require a new motherboard, cpu and memory.

I'm seriously thinking about using the onboard sound, more and more all the time.
