Just what I'm thinking. Futureproofing.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

There may be a couple of other added features to the X48 as well such as Turbo Memory onboard. To think that the X48's only difference will be higher FSB support does not make sense. I don't think Intel would bring out a new board just for that.

From what I've read the X38 will run the 1600 Penryn's with a bios upgrade! No real reason to wait...

Not natively though. Only in an overclocked mode.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

I heard somewhere that Intel decided to drop official support of the 1600MHZ memory speed from X48? Is that right? So it will only officially support 1333MHZ? (Still 1600MHZ for the system bus tho)

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

The reasoning behind this would be if Intel only wants official 1600 FSB support for SkullTrail and server/workstation boards. There are people already hitting 2000 FSB with the QX9650.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

I think Intel will have something on the X48 to do with Turbo Memory. They may have some module soldered to the board or if they convert the PCIe x4 slot to a x1 slot then we could add one of these.

SanDisk to introduce new NAND flash-based accelerator for PC OEMs in 2008

I have already seen a picture of such a custom module from Intel in one of the earlier P35/X38 chipset reviews or maybe IDF.

Edit: Here it is for notebooks.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

Some new pics on X48. Notice the limitations on using the 1600 FSB QX9750 due out Q1'08 like 1bank only, and set voltage and latency. The current QX9650 sounds quite good and it only cost $999.

I'll buy the QX 9650 right now if I could get it for $999, Newegg had it for $1399 plus tax this morning, that place is becomeing a ripoff, just look at the reviews for the 8800gt's they are selling, all most all reviews are complaining about high prices, they go straight to EVGA and save $60....

You don't need to tell me, about Newegg becoming a rip off. The HT OMEGA Claro, which isn't worth more than about $130.00, now sells for $160.00, after Newegg started selling the HT OMEGA CLARO Plus, which uses a ADI OPAMP for the front channels, and sells for $200.00, otherwise there is no difference between the two soundcards.

I agree with you that Newegg is becoming a rip off, espicially when I can at the local computer shop get most of the items, such as motherboards cheaper than what Newegg sells them for most of the time, and this includes memory also, espicially since the price drops on memory.

Good luck on getting the parts for your upgrade.
