Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

My spending priorities won't allow me to upgrade at this time so I will have to hold off for a while. Fortunately I have a good working system with the D975XBX2 and 4GB of fast DDR2. If I were to upgrade I would be looking at the Q9540 and possibly the Intel X48 which will OC to 1600 FSB or the upcoming P45 which is a newer chipset that saves on power.

I had thoughts of getting a quad core, but realized there are other things I would like to get including an HDTV.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

I sent another e-mail out asking about the RAM I want to get. I finally got a reply.

Quote:
Thank you for your email and we are extremely sorry for the late reply.

For the item F3-8500CL6D-2GBHK requested, we launched it a while ago on our product range without the actual shipment to the public due to the shortage of the chips. However, we are here to announce that we will start to sell this item end of this week. Please check with your reseller and hopefully you could get it soon.

Once again, thank you very much for your support to G.Skill.

533 would be fast enough for a 1066 FSB CPU. 1066 is more than enough for me too get to 3.6ghz.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

Some X48/X38 comparisons. (Foreign Websites.)

A couple of times now I have seen faster benchmarks at 1066 RAM than 1600.

Exclamation Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

I believe in Intel but this board has not proven itself yet. I bought this before New Yerars. I installed it in on existing system with a new processor (E6850) and 2g DDR3 1066 memory (OCZ). Two days of everything, I could never get it to boot. I put my old things back in and it botted first try. I called Intel after the holiday and they sent me another one. I installed it the next day and same thing, no boot. It goes to the black screen XP Pro but no blue lights. It then reboots, over and over again. This should have been an easy upgrade but turned to a nightmare. $700+ wasted I guess. I need HELP here.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

I'm still in the "pre-build research stage" here but have to say expereinces like Glenn's concern me. Maybe try a different brand or model RAM?

Four pre build questions for all of you please:

1. What is the latest board revision number?

2. What is XXX in the following sentence? Any board revision later than XXX should be solid and stable.

3. With my Intel DP35DPM mobo there was a second chipset driver to install called the Intel Management Engine Driver (IME.) Essentially it allowed through the OS HAL for the OS to communicate bi-directionally with the mobo in regards to CPU data, and allow for control of hardware such as fan speeds.

On the website for the Bone Trail I do not see any such driver. Is the Intel IME driver on the disk that comes with the mobo, or does the Bone Trail not require any IME driver?

4. Is it true the Bone Trail does not yet support SLI?

Skull Trail is the board that supports SLI, because it has two Nvidia chips on it. Bone Trail does not support SLI.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

I have my MoBo in my hand. BQBT746000MG AA D85848-503 are my boards numbers. This is just in from Intel. I can't say if their is a IME driver but for sure I can set my fan speeds, I do remember that. Now Intel tells me they will replace my CPU. I am awaiting their next email for directions on what to do. This is a simple up-grade to have these problems. I am only Intel, so I will work this out.

Thanks,
GlennC

So it sounds like they think the problem is a bad CPU? But I think you already had that CPU working ok in your previous config? Hmmm...

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

Intel has a good BIOS installation instruction sheet now. Look in the middle for links to building bootable USB thumbdrives.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

No I changed the MoBo and CPU (E6850) and DDR3 memory 1066 1g x 2. My old CPU was Pent 4 3.80 with 925ex Mobo.

Re: Intel DX38BT/DX48BT (Bone Trail)

Newegg finally got the RAM. I should have it on the 30th. I can't wait to try out the new system. I'll be using XP 64.
