| LGA1366 Computex 2008 MB Peek Questions http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1548 Computex 2008 MB Peek Questions Why would this Intel LGA1366 MB have a 4th memory socket? I would think you would have either 3 or 6 sockets. ![]() Many show 3 PCI-X sockets. Now are they for video cards ony? Or woud you be able to intall another device in there like a RAID card? Woud you be able to cross-fire the two bottom PCI-X sockets and keep the top PCI-X open to make room for the top 1x PCI-X that is on some boards. Wish I could get a Nehalem board pdf ![]()

| Re: LGA1366 Computex 2008 MB Peek Questions They're PCIE slots, PCI-X was supposed to supersede PCI but never became mainstream. I don't know why the first one has 4 RAM slots, that is weird. I haven't paid enough attention, but I'm sure they give you the full slot size (even if it's a x4) for the reason of being able to run multiple GPU's (3) if you really wanted, or just whatever else (sound card, tv tuner). I use a TV tuner in a second GPU slot and it works fine on my HTPC.

I have two PCI TV cards that I will be Keeping and I will cross fire my little HD3850. They will be cheap by then (not expensive now) I read several places that, at least 2, will both run at 15x.

| Re: LGA1366 Computex 2008 MB Peek Questions No, I run a x1 PCIe TV tuner in a x8 gpu PCIe slot and it works fine. I was suggesting that it was probably for whatever card you would like to put in there, but I think their aim is most likely a physics card.

| Re: LGA1366 Computex 2008 MB Peek Questions I wish they would get rid of the PCI slots! I want nothing but PCIe. The other issue I see with some boards is how one PCIe x1 slot will be next to the north bridge. Not that many PCIe peripherals can fit within that and it's an irritating waste. To prevent confusion it is actually PCIe. Although, it was coined as PCI-E too (earlier). Later on it was ratified as PCIe. However, both are used. This is noted even on the Wiki, but not in the detail as I explained: “Peripheral Component Interconnect Express, officially abbreviated as PCI-E or PCIe, is a computer expansion card interface format introduced by Intel in 2004.” There are four banks because you can do dual channel with some variants of the Nehalem. Not all Nehalems will be triple channel (192bits/24bytes). Nehalem (microarchitecture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) |

OK, got it. I will need to read up on that. Depending on the MB I get, I may need more SATA ports. I will need 7 or 8. Anyone else do that?
