Re: New Build: Asus P5E64 WS Evolution

I've managed to fix my explorer crash issue! and I'm now stable on default vcore

Did two things; moved the memory into the black slots and removed the GP diagnosis module... dont know which did it but the system has been 100% stable since ... anyhow if you have this issue with this board try these solutions...

Here's a piccy of that module:

Re: New Build: Asus P5E64 WS Evolution

Hi zapionics<alt>!

I was already wondering about that double boot issue, now that i read your link about it i can confirm that double boot happens only when essential thing have been changed in bios (like fsb) or when i pull the plug on the psu. Weird feature.

Tested some psu's lately and the Thermaltake Toughpower 750W does seem to be out slightly out of specs.
(My psu experience in the past months: bequiet 430W = super silent and stable; NesteQ 630W = super silent and stable, less features; Aurora Superflower 750W = good looking with blue leds everwhere, stable but very load; Thermaltake Thoughpower 750W = stable and silent, but a PITA to mount in case; Enermax Modu82+ 625W = silent and stable)

Greetings

Dru

Question Ghost in the Machine?

something strange now... system boots up by itself every night approx 1:30AM... wake on LAN is disabled... nothing else in the BIOS to account for it...

boots up but never gets to load Windows... screen is blank... my Fallout3 dvd in the drive spins up as if its trying to boot from there... but then it shutsdown again...

the system is otherwise perfectly stable ...

Only thing is that I'm using the Windows hibernate feature...

Re: New Build: Asus P5E64 WS Evolution

Well, couldnt find a solution/reason for that so I'm not using hibernate, just shutting down.

Installed a Creative X-Fi titanium... (not the Fatality model)... sound seems to have a better dynamic range... 3D positioning seems good in FEAR... so the Alchemy works... Fallout3 sounds ok... didnt notice a big improvement in performance yet... installation went ok although the software took ages to install...

Well, Nehalem is out now in force and seems to be good. Its very expensive here though and I wouldnt upgrade to it just yet, not until its been out for a while and the bugs found and fixed and price drops.

Not that I want to upgrade, I'm very happy with this X48 and have enjoyed the past few months with it (especially STALKER:CS and now Fallout). I dont think the X58 would deliver any improvement in game performance as the vid card is the real bottle neck. I will stay with this rig for another year or so. I think waiting until the bugs and errata have been found and fixed in the hardware and the prices have come down to something reasonable is a good strategy. It means I skip a version (eg X38) but end up with very stable system.
