| New build temps I've just completed my first build for the last four years. Everything seems to be working ok, but I have a question about temps. Intel dp35dpm motherboard, Intel q6600 retail with intel heatsink & fan, Coolemaster case from previous build. CPU = 56'. at idle. Is this normal ? My previous BZ875 P4 2.8 (Zalman heatsink & fan) ran at about 35'. The ICH temp is shown as 78'. The Intel desktop monitor shows everything as green, but it seemed a bit high for me; or am I out of touch ? Thanks Gareth |

| Re: New build temps Hi Gareth WNW! I'm kinda new to C2D's and recent chipsets/motherboards too, but when you talk about 56°C and 71°C here, i think thats somewhat high for an idling rig. My CPU is under 30°C idle (watercooled) but my motherboard gets "hot", 55°C and more due too insufficient airflow in the case and the HD4870X2 as massive source of heat. Greetings Dru P.S.:Asus Probe says the mb is too hot.

| Re: New build temps You'll want to read this writeup, and then re-measure using Realtemp: Real Temp - Documentation Basically, temperature measurements on the 65nm and 45nm Intel cpu's that have been produced to this point (it's supposed to change with the next stepping) rely on assumptions made by the measurement program about an unspecified design parameter referred to as Tjmax. Different programs make different assumptions as to the value of this parameter, and therefore provide different answers. Realtemp, I feel, is likely to be more accurate than other programs, because it was designed based on actual measurements with an infrared thermometer (not on a Q6600, though). Also, the writeup I linked to above defines a simple calibration procedure which will improve its accuracy even further. Regards, -- Al
