For the first time I have to say thanks for the heads up. I had a feeling that they were going to release another one after the recent previous ones. I experienced one time an iastor error. It freaked me out, for I never do experience issues with my systems. I also noticed that for some reason the write cache information is viewable (underneath optimize for performance) and it should not be. Only two options should be present optimize for removal and optimize for performance. With performance being selected of course. But I could have sworn it was not viewable till I had the error.

Ah, I feel better.

This error is still there! The thing is: You can select (try to enable) this option only once. Then you'll get an error-message in the event-viewer (disk: the driver has disabled the write cache). After this the option is always greyed out (but no error-messages anymore in the event-viewer). Seems this is just a minor bug. Don't know if they are aware of it. Didn't found any useful (online) contact information, so I wrote it to the D975XBX support (but never got a reply) ...

Ah, so it was not the error that was exhibited on my machine that produced this write cache viewable. I did the same thing enabled the write cache and then the driver disabled the cache too. It seems to be a”feature.” How is the performance for you with the new drivers. I have not installed them yet. Going to, in literally, a few seconds. Thank you for the input.

The thing is: I don't think, that the write-cache really is disabled. Afaik (tried it once on an IDE setup) Windows would log/show an error on every boot in the event-viewer if it's really disabled. But this doesn't happen. Just seems the guys at Intel don't know how to enable the display correctly. Maybe it's because of this native AHCI thing. Who knows ...

Performance seems to be pretty good, but I didn't benchmark it ...

Maybe you can post some?

I agree with you about write cache. The sub-menu is an enable menu with the Server 2003 series. Odd that it is now present with Windows XP. Performance has never seemed lacking with previous drivers. But I shall check here in a bit.

Edit:
Well, this is interesting. There is no difference in score. However, the graph with HD Tach is flatter now than previous tests. It did not have that many oscillating spikes. However, boots have been bursty and a little snappy. This is of course strictly anecdotal.

Edit #2:
Erasing a file using the Guttman process is a bit faster too. There is something better with this driver, but I can only say its placebo or just anecdotal.

That's odd. This is what it has looked like on my system since the previous version and with this new one on my ICH6R running in AHCI mode. I never really paid much attention to it until now. Note that I've never had crashes related to iastor.

exactly this is how it looks after the driver-install. now try to enable this "write cache" and you'll see that you can't "enable" it ...

Issues resolved in version 6.2.1.1002:
2195165 - On systems with a RAID volume greater than 1TB, a blue screen may occur if the system enters the S4 power state while a rebuild or parity initialization of a RAID 5 volumeis in progress
2199965 - Use of the -s switch does not result in a silent installation when used with other incorrect commands
2199692 - Double-clicking the Intel® Matrix Storage Console while in Administrator mode does not run the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager with full privileges

Sounds like it maybe a simple fix actually. It seems you do not have the boot priority set. What is your motherboard?
