| Re: New Intel mini-itx mobo with Atom™ Processor is out Finally got around to installing this mobo in a case and started by running memtest v2.01. Next Installed XP Pro and Office 2003. RAM: 1GB Crucial Rendition PC2-5300 DDR2-667 Hard Drive: 100GB Fujitsu SATA notebook Power supply: Morex 60 watt power board & 110w brick External DVD-Rom via USB So far all is good. The chipset fan is annoying ... May need to replace the hsf or at the very least, add a fanmate controller. Linux Mint 5 is about to go final tomorrow so I'll wait for that and give it a shot. I borrowed the power brick from my D201GLY2 to test out this Morex psu that I never tried. I was planning the use an old Compaq 19 volt laptop power brick but the 19 volt output has me worried. Anyone have any experience using a 19 volt power brick as a power source ? BTW the heat sink and fan are on the chipset, the heat sink at the top is the cpu ... ![]()

| Re: New Intel mini-itx mobo with Atom™ Processor is out Review at Tom's ... What conclusion should we draw about the Atom platform? We came away with a mixed impression. The processor itself is a success – it’s affordable, consumes very little power, and while its performance is weak, it’s sufficient for its target market (low-cost PCs intended for Web use). In addition, HyperThreading is a good feature and the platform is reactive. But for us the disappointment is the associated chipsets. Intel offers only two choices, and they’re open to criticism. The SCH Poulsbo seems efficient and autonomous, but it’s not viable in a standard PC due to its MID orientation (no SATA, for example), whereas the i945GC and i945GSE chipsets are usable in PCs, but they’re throwbacks – they lack functions, their performance with 3D is disastrous (whereas more and more applications are using it), and they consume significantly more power than the processor itself. | Re: New Intel mini-itx mobo with Atom™ Processor is out Thanks for the article yamawho! Interesting reading. Too bad the CPU is too slow, and the graphics too poor for a real HTPC. Would make a heck of a low power FreeNAS system though.
