Be Advised your memory better be rated for 1.8 volts, I've seen on the internet, that if your memory isn't 1.8 volts, it will not work on the Intel DP35DP. Other than this, the DP35DP is a great board to get, since you are building a business machine.

Re: New System ?

Again, are you sure you want to overclock? Overclocking will always compromise stability and I'm not sure you'd want to do that for a business machine. The 520 watt Corsair PSU is way more than enough especially since Seasonic is a reputable manufacturer.

I agree that 520W is more than adequate, and I have had excellent results with that particular supply in two systems. I disagree that "overclocking will always compromise stability." Running an E8400 at 3.5gHz on a quality P35 mobo is a very conservative overclock; assuming thorough testing with Prime95 and Memtest86+ following the initial build, and verification that your temperatures are as they should be, I would feel completely confident in using the system for business purposes.

I'll try to look more closely at your other component selections tomorrow.

Regards,
-- Al

Re: New System ?

I also believe that a conservative O/C can be rock stable. My present system in my sig is a prime example. I never crash. I know, from posts on this site and others, that the E8400 is fully capable of 4.0. I consider 3.5 to be conservative. I have a hard time with the idea of not using some of the potential that the E8400 has.

Thank-You.

Re: New System ?

Carl -- I looked over the rest of your selections. Comments are as follows:

-- The mobo has been superceded by the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L, which has gotten very mixed user comments at NewEgg. I suppose many of the negative comments are bios-related, and will be fixed in future releases, since this board is new, but you'll want to review the comments carefully.

-- The video card seems like overkill for a business application, and several people commented at NewEgg that it is noisy. Also, fwiw, my recent experience on several systems has convinced me that at present ATI-based graphics hardware and software is more prone to instability than the NVidia-based counterparts.

-- The case, as you no doubt realize, is extremely small. I assume you have space constraints that dictate that.

Good luck with the build!

I appreciate your suggestions. I will take a closer look at the components and make changes were necessary. What Asus board would be recommended and what v-card would you suggest?

Thanks Much.

Re: New System ?

Both I and another person here, as well as a lot of people who left comments at NewEgg, have had excellent results with this video card:

Newegg.com - EVGA 384-P3-N851-AR GeForce 8800 GS 384MB 192-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

And EVGA generally is considered to be one of the best suppliers of NVidia-based cards. Make sure, though, that your case can accommodate the length of the card.

I have no particular familiarity with the Asus P35-based mobos (which I think is the right chipset for your purposes), but here are all of the Asus P35 mobos that are designed for DDR2-1066 memory and are offered by NewEgg:

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

Regards,
-- Al
