The way it sounds something got hosed on your Windows install. Since it's a new install on a new system you won't be losing anything with a fresh install will you?

Do a fresh install and choose FULL install even if you purchased the upgrade version. The program will ask you for your previous version disk if you do. I've read accounts of problems with upgrade installations. XP will format and partition your HDD. Then install your drivers in the order in Mr. Steveo's guide and you won't have any problems.

Don't hold your breath for Asus to return your call or emails

Disable system restore
Go into the ADD/REMOVE and remove the NIC drivers
Flush the PREFETCH folder C:\windows\prefetch
flush the TEMP folder
Get the latest drivers fromt the Asus web site (besure its the correct driver)
Go into BIOS, disable the NIC, save and exit, go back into windows,
restart back into bios, enable the NIC (don't enable any NIC management settings) save settings and exit
go back into windows then try to re-install the driver.

Sorry redmist, perhaps a re-install as noted in the other post may resolve, I suspect it may not, but do a re-install following Mr Steveo's instruction and see if it corrects your issue?

At least try one more time before RMA, by the way, have you flashed your bios to the most current one?

Also, Asus sometimes have two different NIC drivers (as they do for the P4PE) for one board, depending on the NIC type used.

One other thing you can do, (make sure you have Admin rights) copy the NIC driver folder to C:\ drive

Make sure the NIC drivers isn't installed.
Go into safe mode, go to the Device manager delete your NIC under network adapters (if it shows) go to the NIC drivers folder you placed on C:\ drive, find the INF file located in there for your operating system, right click on the INF file, select install, once done, restart back into your normal windows. See if it installs now?

no luck doing that either.

i've already re-installed xp pro according to the instructions on that thread- still no go. ideally, i'd like to wait until customer service can call me back to see if it is fixable, other than that- i guess rma may be the only way.

i am using the bios included with the motherboard set-up cd (v2.51) as this is a new build and i just wanted to get everything going before any tweaking.

i just called new egg to get an rma number as i may just do this if asus tech support can't get back to me tonight. i've been working on this problem for 4 days now and i am getting really frustrated. it's a good thing i've had off from work.

Redmist:

To recap, youre trying to load Intel CSA LAN drivers from the Asus CDROM and the system is hanging. Yes?

If so, please note the Guide recommends using INF, and LAN drivers from Intels website (latest versions.) Also make sure to follow the recommendation in the Guide for INF installtion and for USB driver installation steps.

In short you really dont need (and you may not even want) the drivers from your mobo CD.

hi steveo-

yes, i am trying to install those drivers from the motherboard cd but in frustration, i have tried every driver and every situation that my inexperience has let me- with the same result- a hanging install.

i've done the XP install according to your guide, and now i am at the point where i have to install the drivers for the intel pro1000 ct (onboard lan).

i tried this new file from intel:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...me=PRO2KXP.EXE

and also this inf file- is this the one you refer to?

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...&ProductID=871

not sure what to do if these don't work other than to RMA this and cross my fingers.

thanks for your help
