I am ready to do the testimonial, it has changed my life!

"Hi, my name is Josh and my computer used to crash everyday, that is if it would POST in the first place, BUT THAT was before Mr Steveo's Do-It-Yourself Software and OS Install guide...."

Actually, I am going to reformat and install again and try out the Intel Accelerator program this time, just to see if it makes a difference, I keep hearing good and bad, but what the heck, if it is a disaster, I can always do it again.

Get yourself a copy of Norton Ghost, totally the best piece of software ever!

Make a backup, try a new driver/program/update if it ain't no better then you can just load the backup in a few mins

Cheers Buzby.

Believe me!

Spend all that time installing things as per this great guide, then straight away make a ghost backup of this clean install, then if things really go t!ts up you have a clean install sitting on a Cdr ( that you'll burn it too) that you can just install saving yourself a couple of hours work

When I get which ever mobo/chip at the end of the month thats the way I'll be going....

Details on Registry Clean

Mr. Steveo-

Looking forward to using your guide in the very near future. Ordered the parts from Newegg today. (see below)

My question - in step 16 of the Quick Steps you say to perform a registry clean. Can you explain that in more detail please? I haven't done much with the registry and could use a little guidance.

Thanks!

YoBoGo - LMAO

Too funny. I never knew with a setup Guide I would not have to brush my teeth or pretreat my laundry.

DBoone- I think you will find your answers if you read the long unadbrdige version of the Guide

ANNOUNCEMENT

It appears Microsoft has just released a new Service Pack for Windows XP. The new Service Pack is called Windows XP Sp1a. Link to the page is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...p1/default.asp

Explanation from MS is here
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813926

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to MS, SP1a does not include MS Java VM. Since the Justice Depeartment and Sun had a problem with MS offering Java as an included app, I suspect this may have somethign to do with it. I always thought it was a happy mistake that Java VM was included in SP1. Anyone know more about this?

Also as of now MS is not recommending SP1a to people who are currently running SP1. If SP1 is no longer available for download I will update the links in the Guide by morning.

Mr. Steveo, what a wonderful help ur guide has been. I've installed windows more times than I can count and i can't tell u how many times i've wondered what the best procedure is. While following your guide on my recent reinstall i came to step 5. "Set your “PCI Latency Timer” to 64," i worked my way through every menu in the bios and couldn't find it. I am using bios 1003 beta 004. Any thoughts would be appreciated as i'd love to adjust this setting.

Thanks

Under the Advanced menu in the BIOS scroll all the way down. There is stuff off screen that you don't see after the last option that you do see, so keep scrolling until you get to PCI Configuration. Go into that menu and it is there.

That is why I have the manual handy at all times. Well, maybe that is because I was too lazy to put it away.

HTML disabled? That must make it hard to follow a link. Just click on the username on the left to see a users profile BTW.
