| I have same problem as you razorback. Can you clarify the "reinstalled my INF file" step? I'd like to get mine right too. Does this mean I don't have usb2 support working? |

| Well, I decided to be clever since Im doing a fresh install on new build. I followed the guide here: http://unattended.msfn.org/ and made my own install with the network drivers and the Inf's for MB already included hehe. Figure I'll put it together boot from a floppy to flash bios to current if need be then run cd install and hope I got it all right. I know my XPSP1 disc alone was good but this time, if I did it right I wont have to babysit the install. Plus even included insturction so it will install some of my main apps as well like DX9 & Diskeeper and such so that all of the stuff is right there. I could of included my vid drivers as well but think I will just do those manually after everything else and then install em and RC2 of SP2. Anyway thought the link might be of interest to some.

| A little question. I'm installing win2000 (a standard required at work). The Guide says that I should install Win2k the same way as WinXP, while skipping the "steps referring to Remote Assistance, Messenger, and Universal Plug and Play. Additionally, whenever you see mention of Windows XP SP1; conduct that step using Windows 2000 SP4." But what should be done about these steps: 5. Install pre-SP2 USB drivers Q822603 7. For 875 / 865 chipsets only: Install pre-SP2 IDE drivers Q812415 Maybe, besides Sp4, it is also essential to dl some other, pre-Sp5 updates? Also, when (after installing Sp4, INFs and LAN drivers) I surf to windowsupdate - it offers me LOTS of patches, SPs and other stuff to upgrade my IE & OE. When I click download and install - I get a warning saying something like "OE is a very special and sensitive thing - you should not install in simultaneously with other updates, please do it some other time in a more gentle manner". Man ... I'm getting damn confused here. Else, - while online, collecting these patches, I was also infected by this Shutdown in 60 seconds disease . Thus, it also seems rewarding to install this anti-sasser (or what is it called) patch and tuning your firewall first. Thanks in advance. |

As for the windows updates, if it says to update a component by itself, you should only update it by itself.

| XPSP2 is in its second RC (Release Canidate) so, there's a chance that there might be one more before final is released but I dont recall too many RC3's from testing for MS. As for ETA I have no idea as MS doesnt usually tell testers till its time hehe but if with RC2 out I dont think the wait will be much longer. Think they may be trying to time it so both DX9c and sp2 done at same time since latest RC does install DX 9c beta.

| well, unless you slipstream it all you would follow his guide and then just apply the SP2 once the system boots fully to XP. The other method is slipstreaming the SP's with your origonal install disc burning that to a cd and then when you install your already at sp2. I didnt go that far but I did go so far as to build a slipstream of sp1 that included folders with the latest intel Chipset infs , network driver etc so that I didnt have to install each thing sepratly after bootup.
