Well i own a 925xe chipset (p5ad2-e premium) and i have installed xp pro with sp2 integrated. Nothing came up so far... As david did, i first installed the chipset drivers, then the others similar to mr.steveo's guide.

oh yea i had a question about slipstreaming.. for some reason when i pop in my XP cd...(pro with SP1a include) and i follow the similar or the same slipstreaming instructions when i format and put in my XP CD-KEY during installation it says its the WRONG CD -KEY so i have to end up formatting through ms-dos, and then installing using the original xp w/sp1a.. cd =/ did i miss a step!?

Sounds like you have a bad key. If your key is legit call MS.

Well the funny thing is.. thats the replacement key for the one i lost, my xp pro cd came with the cd-key on the plastic wrap(OEM).. and silly me i tossed it out... called them up provided them with information and boom i had another key but for some reason it just dont work with sp2 slipstream also im using the nlite program...... oh well.. 3rd times the charm right?! im using the nlite quick method. but im going to try something im going to try the CMd prompt way, and the nlite way imma see if this makes a difference ill be back in about in hmm an hour.

back back back it didnt take an hour as i expected i have 1 system running the cmd prompt intergrated sp2 disk and the nlite version.. cmd prompt one worked flawless... for me, nlite i had to put it in 2 to 3 tiems before it would trigger... so i guess its fixed =/ and i didnt have to waste... minutes calling M$ again /

Question: I'm running sata hd's and I moved a bunch of my files over to a couple of IDE hard drives to store until the format...now is it cool to just pop em in and out just long enough to get the files off them or is that bad practice ? I've been wondering this for a LONG time lol.

TIA,
bucly

leave the IDE drives unplugged until after XP is installed. After that it's no problem!

Yeah you should be able to so long as the files are regular data and not application or operating system files....and unplug the ide drives like BF said during installation on your SATA's...

Question

hi all, i used mr.steveos os install guide about a year ago, everything went great. now i have a disk from microsoft that has sp2 upgrade on it. is it ok to install sp2 this way or is it best to reformat to do this? or just hit windows update manually? which is the most stable and safest way? i don't know anything about slipstreaming, nor do i have a cd-r. is there a new guide about installing sp2 with winxp with sp1 already on it? my winxp disk has sp1 already on it when i installed it....thank you..

Disconnect your Internet connection, disable your antivirus, install the Service Pack 2 from the CD, reboot, enable your antivirus, reconnect your Internet connection.

You probably don't HAVE to disable your antivirus but it can help sometimes and is recommended in many situations.

If you prefer though, you can do it via the Windows Update site, in that case never disable your antivirus and just install it.

Any way you do it will work out fine though.

I strongly suggest that you do as instructed above but before you install SP2 run Adaware and Spybot or your spyware removers of choice. I have upgraded many computers to SP2 and have always removed the spyware first and have not had a single problem.

I also recommend setting a system restore point before you start.

buahaha

Here is the Mac OS X guide to install

1. With the Mac OS X Install CD/DVD in drive turn on machine an hold down the 'C' key on the keyboard (the machine will now boot from the CD/DVD)

2. From the Graphical installer, select the Disk icon you want to install to, or the disk you wish to partition. (Oh if u have a 3rd party SCSI card/ SATA/ATA card with a drive connected you want to install to, be comforted in that the the installer will automatically display ANY drive connected to ANY card for you to install the OS directly to, without the need to perform archaic F6 3rd party driver loading from floppies).

3. Choose exactly what you wish to install (custom install) Hit install an go get a coffee.

4. 12 mins later, enter a name for the user account, the machine will then load to the desktop for you to start using your new OS.

Mr. Steveo hasn't posted since the end of March. I wouldn't count on it being updated, but it still has a lot of valuable information that can be used.
