mjlewis,
Is the P4C800-E you have a revision 2 board?

rokstar,
I'm asking because I've tested two rev 2 P4C800-E's in the last month and neither one of them would overclock like my rev 1 board.

djt, i was referring to mysteryman's memory remark about the ocz rev 1 and rev2.

but i had an asus P4C800-E rev 1 before i rma'ed it and got a rev 2. they both oc about the same, my 2.4 is running at 3.0. i think i got a crappy cpu, cos it wouldn't go much higher on the rev 1 either.

rokstar,
With the rev. 1 board I was able to get 3.6GHz out of my 3.0 on stock voltage. With the rev 2 boards I can't even get 3.3GHz. I have also tried increasing the voltage on the memory and cpu with no improvement.

The Rev. 1 PC3700 Golds used Samsung chips that are no longer available according to Bigtoe. Rev. 1 was also rated at 2-3-3-7 versus 2.5-3-3-7 for Rev. 2 sticks. I had a pair of Rev. 1's and they were sweet.

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do I tell if it's a rev1 or rev2 board?

mjlewis,
Between the second and third PCI slot you should see
"P4C800-E", under this label you should see in small text "Rev 2.00".

no problem right?

Hey everyone.... this is my first post on this site. Looks like a wealth of information for the p4c800.

I'm looking for a couple of opinions..

Question #1
I have a p4c800-E DLX, 2x 256 mushkin pc3500 black level II, Zalman, and 2.4c SL6Z3 coming in the mail. (should be here tomorrow) I would like to do a voltmod on the board if needed and obtain 3.6 from the 2.4 with 300FSB 5:4 with the memory running 240fsb and 2-2-2-5 timings. This should be a piece of cake right?

Question #2
I've read that I should burn in my mushkins before attempting to give them a good overclock. I'm curious how true you guys think that is, how long and what program I should use to burn them in.

Also.. is it recommended that I use the 1014 bios version, or stick with an earlier version?

Can't wait to get started.. Thanks for such a great forum covering OCing the p4c800

Welcome, Quaddamage. Before attempting a volt mod, you should test to see how high you can overclock your non-modded board. Bios 1014 should work fine. Hitting 300FSB involves luck as well as skill. Not all CPU's with the same stepping will overclock the same. Hopefully you're getting a good one.

Indeed I will... but do you think there is any chance I would be able to get 2-2-2-6 240fsb on the ram without the v-mod?

I've never used Mushkin Level 2 Blacks. I heard it's very good RAM, but works best at DDR400 which won't get you to your goal. For maximum overclocking, you want memory that can handle DDR466 or higher.

Confused?!?!?

O.K, ready for some advice please.

Running P4C800-E (bios 1014), 3.0C, 1 GIG Mushkin Level II

Recently built my current system and just started comparing benchmarks with Super Pi & Sandra. The Sandra numbers are what bother me. I'm sure it's just something dumb I'm doing (or not doing) but, here goes.

Using default bios settings I would get about 4500mb/s in the unbuffered mem test. Seemed a little low. After a bit of research I tried tweaking a bit and never was able to see any real improvement. I will say this though, my Mushkin ram and Asus board have been stable throughout Anyway, so I raise the FSB up to 217 to run it equal to the PC3500 ram. I reran the benchmark and now I'm at about 3150 mb/s. I seem to remember scores around 6000mb/s on various sites like Anandtech.

It's my first post here so if its a dumb question I apologize. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi beagle and welcome. Are you running your CPU/memory at a 1:1 ratio (DRAM Frequency = 400MHz)? Also, did you mean the "buffered" test? 4500 for Sandra unbuffered is actually quite high. In order to run the unbuffered test, nine boxes have to be unchecked.
