Hello folks ... after reading this I decided to post my OC problem :

Rig:

- OCZ PowerStream 420W Power Supply
- P4C800 Gold Edition i875p, Revision 1.03, Bios 1019c final
- Intel P4 3.0GHz, Boxed sSpec SL6WK (30caps!!), Packdate 10/03/2004
- OCZ EL DDR PC-4200 Dual Channel Platinum Edition 1GB, CL 2.5-3-3-8 @ 2.75 Volts
- Zalman 7700 AlCu + Arctic Silver 5

In BIOS:

Memory Speed : 400 (1:1)
Memory timings : 2.5-3-3-8
Memory Voltage : 2.75V

AGP/PCI Frequency : 66/33
AGP VDDQ : 1.5v

MPS Revision : 1.4
Graphics Aperture : 128MB
Spread Spectrum : Disabled
ICH Delayed Trans. : Disabled
USB Legacy support : Disabled

Performance Acceleration Mode : Enabled
PAT : Turbo

All the other DRAM options (Idle time, Refresh Rate, ...) are at default !

I'm stable at 254fsb with my P4 3.0C at 1.58v, that equals 3.8GHz.

The temps are between 28ºC (idle) and 48ºC (full load).

My tests are done by running at the same time the SuperPI for 2M and the MemTest 3.0.

The problem is that at >= 255fsb with this test the system freezes after one or two minutes !! I have to reboot the machine.

Tried with the vCore at 1.6v and 1.62v and it still freezes with that test !

The mem's are ok and are bellow it's default specs, because they are PC4200.

Is it the CPU ??

I think it's the board/BIOS because this CPU was at 4.2GHz in a WC system before it came to me !

What do you think ?
Any ideas folks ?

Have you tried changing the "PAT" to default ?

My friends 2.8@3.7 would crash after a few minutes when he had PAT=Turbo.

@ jvidia:
Try 2.85 Vdimm and 1.6 or 1.7 vagp

Something non-OC but sure helps

Hi,
I don`t know if there`s already posted here or in any other thread but:

DO NOT install any PCI card at slot 3 !!! If you can live with one PCI slot free of course.
That`s makes conflicts with onboard SATA and LAN controller. If you live without LAN then disable it as either all unnessesary components as Serial and Parrallel ports.

In order of preferance to be filled:
PCI #2 -especially if you have a SB live or a controller card
PCI #5
PCI #4
PCI #1
Note that PCI #1 and PCI #5 are shared each other resouces and so don`t place cards that are suspicious for conflicts with other devices/cards

Also note that I didn`t made it up in my mind, that`s true with every mobo and should be kept in mind.My TV tuner card was in #2 and SB was in #4 and I had conflicts (but not listed in device manager though) !!! Every time I changed audio mode in tv then the system freezed, now runs as a charm.

*EDITED to add info*

I'm about to get a Soundblaster AudigyZS
Are you sure that PCI slot 2 doesn't share IRQ ?

It would save me the trouble of finding that out myself

Thanks.

I have my Audigy 2 ZS in pci slot 4.
It's the only PCI card in my P4C800.

Is there any problem with that ?

I've noticed nothing so far ...

EDIT: in what way increasing the vagp will affect an OC ?

I've tried it and it didn't seem to help

From my experiences (With the -E) this board has a problem with vcore of 1.6 or higher. 3rd board I have had and all 3 had the problem. I can do anything I want with this CPU except hit 1.6 vcore. If I do, Instant lockup. Oh well, 3.5 from a 2.8 is totally acceptable to me.

in my oc (with my system very similar to yours) i found that too high a vcore freezes my pc when i first went on my journey of 4ghz, i found that my sweetspot was 1.56v (which according to mbm was really 1.63)..so setting to 1.6 is really fluctuatting around 1.68-1.70

also i have vdim 2.85 & agp set to 1.7 and performance set to standard, (turbo gives you probs.) and PAT enabled

my soundcard audigy 2 ZS is in the last pci slot, not conflicts (actually i have had all my sound cards in the last slot with no probs ever since my cusl2 days like 4 years ago.

DanX,
PCI#2 is the best solution for installing a "difficult" card and so you should definetely choose this pci slot as when you have set in bios the "onboard LAN" to "Disabled" then pci#2 slot doesn`t share anything with any other device (or pci card device).
Alternative:
You can choose pci#5 if you don`t have any card installed on pci#1 (as #1 & #5 are sharing each other).

There must be no problem as long as you don`t use the same time the sound card and the Firewire (transfering video). If you don`t make any use of Firewire then simply go to bios->Advanced->Onboard Devices Configuration->Onboard IEEE 1394 Controller and set it to "Disabled".
That also applies to all of them who need LAN feature while don`t need Firewire-they can choose #4 and disable firewire.

Vagp is only affecting the graphics card and NOT the cpu/mem OC capability.Note that is only worth if you OC your GFX card and that sometimes gives worse results, especially when GFX`s HSF is stock.

I do agree that 1.600V is way too much for a Prescott cpu.I would recommend up to 1.475 for "normal" OC -normal means that it will last for sometime- and up to 1.550 for aggressive OC -prefered if there`s watercooling- with limited life though. So be happy with any speed that achieves at 1.425 and have your mind in lifetime with any HSF,even with stock. Now if the speed gain from 1.375 to 1.425 isn`t so much then prefer the lower speed/voltage.Anyway most Prescotts won`t boot in 1.600V as the temp is getting even at boot holds it back.

patentman, I will use the Firewire port of my SBlaster2 ZS in a near future.

I'm going to pass my Hi8 tapes to DVD by using the SBlaster2 ZS firewire port.

Will there be a problem because of the SBlaster2 ZS is installed in the PCI slot 4 ?

By the way ... wich firewire port were you refering ? My P4C800 dosen't have any firewire port wright ?

jvidia,
Oooops...I thought you had a "DELUXE" version as what the thread is...I`m apologising myself Sorry.Your mobo may have total different PCI sharing...

Look at my other problem that I solve: (not applicable for you jvidia )
RAID and IDE HHds full with boot sectors,RAID can`t be selected as bootable when IDE (with OS installed) was added after

patentman, i have a northwood 30 capper, but i agree in that the pressie and the northwood dont' like certain volts.

I was refering to Keri who has a 2.8E Prescott and system can`t boot at 1.6V although he has changed three mobos.I posted this to say that the cpu isn`t capable of handling the 1.6V and not the mobo.If there was a problem with the mobo (not capable of delivering well 1.6V) then the system would boot but soon after would hang cause of lack in delivering stabilized voltage -pikes.It could be a bad/lame psu problem also but not in such a case. Many Prescott fail at 1.6V even if there are good cooled.
Don`t know any of Northwoods -as why I determined for Prescotts only.

No prob at all,I thought you`d repplied to Keri and said what I did and I came to confirm your thought.

It does actually post at 1.6 but then locks. Is also multiple CPU's (All 2.8E's) and I am watercooled so it's not too hot. Also has an Antec TruePower PSU so no problem there. I really feel it is a limitation of the Board.
