I have a p4c 2.8c (sl6z5 costa rica, core M0) that can reach 3.5 but needs to increase the vcore to 1.7000 in the bios of my p4c800e dlx. I wonder if it is safe for my cpu. Under wxp, asus probe says vcore 1.712 idle & 1.61 fullload (using corsair twinx 3200 XL 512x2 async)

I don't think that is safe to run 1.7V all day, maybe for a couple minutes to benchmark, but I wouldn't run it above 1.6V 24/7

I just upgraded to a P4 3.2c SL6WE and was wondering if there is a way of telling the number of caps without taking apart my computer again. I didn't take anynotice of the number of caps before I put the chip in I appologize in advance if it has already been discussed. Thanks. I have managed to OC it to 238FSB but is wasn't too stable as I am running crappy 1 Gb pc3200 ram. ( soon to be replaced) I have ordered some Hyperam pc4200. -1 GB. Will this allow me to OC futher than 3.8 Ghz or is this the limit of this processor with the P4C800-e Deluxe? My PSU is an Antec TruePower 550 (Needed for OCing my 6800 Ultra) so power shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks a lot guys.

I read in other threads and forums that the M0 core could sustain high voltage like 1.75 instead of the D1 core which clearly doesn't like high vcore.
I'd like to have the experience of people who own a p4c 2.8 M0 core, 30caps...

Well, I have determined that I do have a 30cap P4 3.2C. I have not been able to get a steady overclock above 3.71Gh. I am running Hyperam PC4200 533Mhz RAM as well. I have tried just about everything. -If I go any higher, i can't even load windows fully. -It just freezes. Does anyone have any thoughts? I have a Zalman CPU fan and AC5 as well. Should I be able to go higher?

It wouldn't be the first time people with other boards post in a thread about a different one and since you have no info in your profile I have no way to know without asking!

I am also water cooled and 1.6 has never booted with a 2.8E on any of 4 of the same type boards!

Does anyone have any opinons on the "Throttle Slow Clock Ratio" in the APM configuration in the BIOS? It's set at 50% by default. Will this setting increase the performance?

Also, I have been able to sustain a 3.71 GHZ OC at 1.7Vcore with an Antec 550 Watt PSU. However, I ran the CPU 100% for 30 mins and the Vcore effectively ran at 1.55!!! At Idle it's 1.69 when it's set to VCORE 1.7. Is this normal? The highest temp was 56C and it ran perfectly. IS this temp acceptable?

Thank you so much

Using Throttle slows down the cpu when it's not being used or when the temperatures are too high.

So you better leave it disabled for best performance.

The voltage dropp is normal on this board and nothing to worry about.
But are you sure you need that much to maintain your OC ?
Setting it to 1.6 in the bios should suffice.

Your max temp of 56 is a little high.
But if you can pass a PRIME95 maximum heat test with it it's ok.
( At least run it for 60min, if it doesn't "crash" at 57 degrees you're fine.)

Merry Christmas everyone !

Greets all, and wow, what a thread! Still haven't gotten through half of it, and I have to chime in ; )

I'm hitting the 255 FSB wall. Sucks because at 250 it's rock solid, I can do just about anything and the only bottleneck is my video memory, because I can't afford to get a waterblock for it ($200 for the only memory-inclusive blocks that I know of - the innovatek models). The video card gets rather hot, too, probably hotter than my cpu could if it was on air.

I'm happy with my big round numbers (1000 MHz QDR FSB) , but I wanted to see what my max overclock is if I adjust everything just right. I think I can get a lot more out of my system because it's so solid right now and both the cpu and nb sit at room temp no matter how hard they're working because my cooling is so uber ; ). I think voltage may be the limiter but I just read here that 1.625 ends up being lower than 1.6, probably because above 1.6 it switches to a different set of caps that Intel never meant to exist ; ), and the voltage becomes much less stable. Bravo to ASUS for giving us the chance, though. I'll give 1.675+ a shot and report back.

My video card is very finicky, does anyone know if the AGP/PCI frequency settings are actually what they're labeled as, or are they just like the memory ratio settings, labeled in MHz instead of ratio? I use "auto" for my AGP/PCI ratio, I'm not sure if it's affecting my overclock.

EDIT: My board is Rev. 2.00, and I'm using BIOS 1017. From where I stopped reading posts, most of us have Rev. 2.00 boards, but everyone was still using 1014. My eyes hurt from reading, could someone who knows tell me if this really the best BIOS?

Set AGP/PCI to 66.66/33.33 and see if it helps, this will lock the AGP/PCI frequencies where they should be.

Aaaargh!!! The ASUS web site has some holiday flash thing and it's blocking me from checking for a new bios or any info. Not that ASUS ever has anything useful, but still, it's annoying that their webmaster never visits his own site.
