Thanks.
My Sandra File System score is only around 48,000kB/s. I think this is because of the amount of data on my drives, plus I do nightly defrags which probably affect my score. I remember when I installed the drives, I was getting 70,000kB/s. But empty drives always get better scores. On HD Tach, my random access times are around 8.6ms which is about normal for a Raptor. My ATTO score can be found in Benchmarking section. I usually average around 125K on writes.

I'm running a 128K stripe and a 16K cluster size. I did a lot of experimenting with cluster sizes and found 16K offered the best performance for the apps I use. The default cluster for Windows XP is 4K which is too low, in my opinion. Personally I don't consider Sandra to be a very accurate measure of hard drive performance. I'll try to run some tests using the Iometer which is a much better benchmarking tool.

So I'm back to 255FSb for the moment.
If are going to have a system that needs to be super stable for 12+ hours continiously then back to 255mhz. Otherwise u can leave it at 266mhz.

I generaly have a rule about Prime95, if it's stable for ~8hours, then I'm okay. I never ever plan on using my PC for more than that.

Seti or Folding dosen't provide NEARLY that much pressure on the system.

WD Raptors.... I had those when they first came out in RAID0 64k stripe on ICHR5. I was getting ~80,000 on Sandra. Then one just decided to die for no reason, replaced it. It died again. Then the other one died. Replaced both, both died. Replaced and sold them on ebay.

File transfer rates are not the best measure of hard drive performance, which is why Sandra and even ATTO benchmarking results should be taken with a grain of salt. Some people, for instance, brag about how fast Maxtor SATA drives are. The Maxtors score well in ATTO. But when it comes to average read times and I/O rates, a Raptor will slaughter the Maxtor in most benchmark tests. Anyone serious about hard drive performance should read some of the articles and testing methods used at Storagereview.com

.......I agree and have seen have both those benchmarks are known for bad reads......How do you feel about HDTach, I have been told that is one of the best but wanted to know what you think...........

I like HD Tach. I'm using the free version, but may upgrade to the registered one because I'd like to be able to measure write times as well. Also, I like watching that red squiggly line.

In order to do 290FSB 1:1, you would need RAM rated at close to DDR600. With PC4200, a Vdimm mod and some luck, you might get close to 290FSB 1:1.

Just because Prime95 crashed after 8 hours doesn't mean it will run for 8 hours before crashing, all it means is that for that particular run it made it through 8 hours, it could still crash after 2 hours, 2 days, or even 5 minutes.

my measure of stablity is day to day operations. i have been running 300fsb since i got the chip a month ago without 1 crash, prime runs 4+hours then i close the app because any more seems pointless. all my games run smooth as butter without one hiccup (desert combat, NFS underground, nba2004, call of duty, prince of persia)

even though synthetic benches can help you test stability, the true test is day to day operations ie; games, decoding and encoding mpegs, browsing etc)

I use Prime95, 3DMark2001, 3DMark03 and MemTest86, if it passes that lot, I'm away.

I haven't had Windows crash on me whilst running my verified stable setings for about 6 months now, so it's got to be working.
