Hi DanX

I decided to switch from a Canterwood board to an AMD mobo with an FX51 processor. Hopefully, I'll get everything by this weekend. May sell my SL6Z3 if anyone is interested. Was able to get it up to 292 FSB. It will probably go higher. Want to get the new system working first before putting the CPU up for sale. I also have a 2.6C SL6WH Costa Rica that I may sell as well. Will keep everyone posted.

@DanX

Idle 30-32
Load 40-42

measured with ASUS probe, MBM and Aida32

Have tried it at 273FSB=3822MHz, and memory at 333MHz. But get an error in Prime95 after 5-6 min. Maybe I need more cooling. Will try with a fan on the NB.

hrm.. none of my friends are comp geeks like me, they buy Dells.. Not likely that they will buy parts and build a comp.. but they if do so, seems like I gonna be hardware support for them rest of my life..

I'll find a way.. hrm.. wouldn't some active cooling on the NB contribute with something.. eerrr.. good?

Intel P4 2.8C
Asus P4C800-E deluxe
Corsair TwinX1024-4000Pro (512x2) timings are 3-4-4-8(standard)
Thermaltake spark 7+ cpu cooler
WinXP +sp1

vcore is now at 1.575v.
Memory is running at 1:1 ratio and with default voltage - 2.75. Even tryied 2.85 for memory and 1.6 for cpu.

The problem is that I can't get the fsb over 235mhz = ~3.3Ghz
At 240 the system freezes and have to do a manual reboot.

The hardware should keep up with atleast 250mhz fsb or?
Xbitlabs has with the same conf got up to ~3.6Ghz and 1025Mhz system bus.

Ideas anyone?

Forgot to mention that cpu temp is 26-27 degrees idle and 35-37 at full load (235fsb)
I would try a Vcore of mabye 1.6v to 1.625v. Your timings are relaxed but I would try setting the same settings manually instead of by SPD. I know your trying not to use a divider cause you have PC4000 ddr but you could get a much higher o/c if you did. What kind of vid card? If it's a good one raise the AGP voltage to 1.7v.

Did try up to 1.65v for cpu.. didn't change a thing, same problems still occured..

The gfx card is crap, a FX5200 128mb. Dunno if it could stand a valtage raise and can't really afford to buy a new one now.. =)

Have tryied new memory timings - 3-4-4-7. Seems like games are loading much faster now.

As mentined before, maybe I should get some active NB cooling and see how things are going later on.

I used to be a die-hard active NB cooling user until just recently. Even though you're not supposed to touch the inside of your computer with it on, make sure you ground yourself and lightly touch the northbridge heatsink to see if in fact it's that's hot. Mine used to get extremely hot until just recently. My whole system temps went down when I went from an Antec psu to an Enermax. If I were to go with another active northbridge cooler, I would want the new Swiftech NB cooler, it uses the stock clipping system.

>> Sierra...

So you're leaving us P4 freaks ?
Make sure to inform us about how fast your new AMD is in comparison to the P4 !

How much was it you could O'C your 2.6 again ?

>> Panoz

I doubt that a NB cooler would make any difference..
Stop fiddling with the O'C and start using your comp instead

I had to accept that I could'nt reach 3.4..and even if I would have.. the difference would have been so tiny it would'nt matter anyway

- Piddyful

I'm using an antec 430W truw power PSU, the one that comes as stock with the Antec PerformancePlus 1080AMG case. Thought that more power = more efficient. Did try to touch the NB while system was on full load, wasn't so hot as I expected. MB temp is always below 29degrees, it's mostly at 27-28.

-DanX

Hehe.. yeah.. been using it a lot, playing games etc etc. Works like a charm at 230fsb(3.22Ghz), but I want a little bit more..

I don't think active NB cooling is going to help in your case. Hey don't feel bad I can't seam to even get 270fsb using a divider with my system. I think it's my ram though. This board is wierd in that sometimes running everything turbo and aggressive runs better than on standard and high latency.

sometimes labels are just labels.
if it runs better with the key OFF than it does with the key ON, then go for it. As long as you're not hurting anything who cares. Your friends can marvel at your insane genius...

What should the CPUID Maximum Value Limit be set to? Also should I have the Q-Fan Control option enabled or disabled. If it is to be enabled for a better overclock what should the Fan Speed Ratio be set at? I'm currently having problems overclocking my new rev 2 board.

Leave cpu maximum limit and q-fan disabled if u want to test your oc'ing potential.
