Forget this question. For whatever reason the hard drive led did not flash while formatting the drive (or maybe it was but so dimly that it wasn't obvious), but now while actually using the drive, the led flashes like any other drive.

Skyhawk,
I'm am using a P4C800-E Deluxe with WXP Pro, SP2. I downloaded the driver from the Asus site and re-installed.

I do not see the promise driver being loaded during the bios boot. I've re-checked the bios setting and the promise controller is enabled in ide mode.

I'm using bios v1016. What version are you using?

thanks

The first screen on a boot shows ver 1014.

Going into the BIOS > Main > System Information shows:
AMIBIOS
Version: 08.00.09
Build date: 1/21/03

At the very bottom of the same bios screen shows:
V2.51 Copyright 1985-2002

File Size 961.07 (KBytes)
File name: 378ATA100130.zip

Unzipped the file but could not find instructions on how to install the driver. The file unzipped to several folders for various operating systems. The WinXP folder contains the following files:

ptipbm.dll
ULSATA.CAT
UlSata.inf
ulsata.sys
vssver.scc

What should I do to install the driver?

Thanks,

Worked great for my two sata drives and Asus sata DVD writer. Thanks for the advice.
