Re: P5B-Deluxe New BIOS

I flashed it using the ALT-F2 utility on bootup. Went nice and smooth...but BEWARE...flashing this bios wipes out all your settings. Make sure you remember your memory timings, etc...and you will be fine. First message I received was that overclocking failed! I don't overclock...but my memory which is 4-4-4-12 was back at 5-5-5-16. So I had to reset...and also set up for RAID again...since it set everything back to IDE, etc. My boot sequence was gone...so basically it was back to day 1. Not necessarily a bad thing...just takes a few extra minutes to do...

Bob,
Thanks for the info. If you haven't tried using the BIOS config save feature, you should give it a try. Allows you to save your config to a file. Works great! I have 3 different configs saved: No OC, OC #1 and OC #2.

I have it and it seems fine. I like the EZ Flash utility in the bios. I advise against ASUS Update.
Even if everything is not cleared out, it is best to clear your bios anyway after an update.

I flashed to 1223 and I wish I did not. AUSDOS or EZ-Flash will not let me flash backward. I may have to call ASUS.

Thanks for the info chuckbam. 1216 is working fine for me. I will 'leave well enough alone'.

Re: P5B-Deluxe New BIOS

If you really want to backflash to an older bios...create a bootup floppy or CD and download AFUDOS 2.06 or 2.07. The older AFUDOS files don't worry about backflashing and do it for you. I went back to 1219 with no problems.

Get it here:

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/flash/AFUDOS207.zip

Re: P5B-Deluxe New BIOS

Off-topic for this thread, but what the heck...

What version of the sound driver are you guys using? 4580 or 6110? And, which one is really newer? The version numbers seem to indicate 6110, but the file dates on the Asus website seem to indicate 4580.

I like the MS Sound driver. The new one even works with the superbeam microphone.

The "MS" sound driver? Do you mean Microsoft? Please explain. Thanks.

Vista 64
I use the Microsoft High Definition sound driver. It is dated 6/21/06. But, it only first loaded on my system on a new install 10/07. I have installed Vista a few times and always had an older default sound driver. The Microsoft driver I am using now is the first one that works with the Superbeam Microphone.

I have had problem with Microsoft Media Player shutting down and releasing the file with all the ASUS drivers.

I have had no problems above with XP.

Thanks for the reply. I am running XP32. Is there an MS driver for that as well?
