P5E3 WS Pro Green

I have a user that wants a kick-***** machine but wants to use XP 32-bit because its a work machine (accounting). Can this board be made to run more than 3GB of RAM in XP Pro 32-bit. I still see Asus disclaimers in the spec sheets saying the board will not see more than 3GB. I assume that tis machine will get Vista 64-bit when he figures out that all his apps and hardware are compatible. The problem is that some apps and some key peripherals are not compatible.

Re: P5E3 WS Pro Green

I sincerely hope so because I have this board and plan to move up from 2 x 1GB of memory to 4 x 1GB memory - ie 4GB in total. The only restriction I am aware of is that of XP itself that has a ceiling of addressing a max of 4GB memory directly.

Re the disclaimers - where abouts are they as I do not recall seeing them.

Re: P5E3 WS Pro Green

Although the board can do more than 3GB, it's the 32-bit OS that has the limitation. Depending on the board, it will read a max of 3.5GB. This is why you see many Vista 32-bit computer configurations with 3GB. To truly utilize 4GB or higher, you need the 64-bit version of the OS.
