| Random reboots with XP SP3 Hi all! Does anyone have an idea why I get random reboots on a P4P800 after having installed successfully SP3 from (genuine) SP2? This box is the single one on 4 that still runs XP. Till now I've always had to return to SP2 using True Image Home. My middle term solution is to use Vista, but not immediately as I need another Mobo etc (Vista is rather slow with a Prescot 3.2 GHz and 2 GHz memory on this mobo) and - the most important LOL - my wife will have to get used to the Vista's interface. ![]() |

| Re: Random reboots with XP SP3 I would check the power supply first. Also, could there be a problem with some driver - video?? I reply with a question to prompt. Am not familiar with xp3....

| Re: Random reboots with XP SP3 Thanks Tapir, but the PSU has been changed to a more powerful Antec; RAM memory too; nVidia's AGP 7600GS graphics card too. With no luck... Anyway, why should SP3 make my hardware suddenly wrong? The whole case has been dismounted, cleaned, remounted, every connector has been checked, the cpu and the cpu-fan have received new thermal paste. The sytem couldn't be now newer than it is... and SP2 still works, while SP3 works randomly. |

| Re: Random reboots with XP SP3 I know this does not answer your question, but just as an FYI, I have XP Pro SP3 running on my P4P800-D without issues. So, it is apparently not a hardware issue/conflict between the P4P800 and SP3. There must be something else in the mix (software/driver conflict?), specific to your system. Good luck. Hope you are able to sort it out.

| Re: Random reboots with XP SP3 Thanks PeterT. As I really don't know what the difference would be before and after SP3, I guess I'll keep updating SP2 through Windows Update (without SP3). The time is not so long away to move to Vista SP1 (with another hardware of course). Thanks to all anyway! |

| Re: Random reboots with XP SP3 A newsletter I subscribe to "Windows Secrets" is advising not to install SP 3 just now because of the problems it is causing with so many machines. They mention random reboots as one of the problems but specifically with AMD processors. |

| Re: Random reboots with XP SP3 Dear Bjadams44, I've read every topic I could everywhere, and I know the AMD problem very well. As I never saw some problem related to mine, I guess the problem lies to my pc or to me.This is not annoying, as I can apply all individual post SP2 updates and I don't have any problem with SP2, it's just frustrating .As I said, it is my wife's rig , and I try to maintain it up to date. All the componants for moving to Vista SP1 (which runs OK on 3 other rigs) and are ready. It's just a matter of pursuading the wife , who does know pretty nothing about XP. What about Vista then LOL ? |
