| Uninstalled Win 2k can not get it back on Hi, Re;CUSL2-C PIII Maxtor Diamond Max 40 gig UDMA 100 7200, 512 Meg RAM I uninstalled Windows 2000, now I can not get it back on the drive after reformatting "C" in Partition Magic 4. I can not get the computer to recognize the CD as a boot device, and I do not know how to set up First Boot Device in the BIOS as I have tried every option in the boot sequence settings. Am I missing something here? Bios is Award Medallion Any help would be appreciated. I made the four boot floppies up on my ME computer, but 2k install would not recognize the NTFS partition as formatted by Partition Magic 4 I guess I may have to purchase a new hard drive to install 2k and use the other one as a slave to recover my data on the second and third partitions of that drive. Thanks Dave G. desertbluesman@yahoo.com |

| Do you have to format with PM? Your MBR may have a bunch of garbage on it that 2k doesn't like, format with MS start disk using fdisk /mbr command before you format the drive to clean out the MBR or use the debug command to really wipe the disk, lots of info here: http://www.fdisk.com/

| Try booting back into ME and just erase the NTFS partition. Let W2K create/format the partition.. To set CD as boot go into your bios and go to the "boot" tab and just highlght CDROM and use "+" and "-" to move it up in the list. HTH

| Thanks I do not have a dual boot system, I have a Hard Drive switch so neither drive is running or recognizes each other when the other is running. Thanks for both replies. My strategy is this, I am going to install ME and CD burner software on that drive and salvage whatever data I want from D and E partitions. Then I am going to wipe the whole hard drive clean with the nastiest utility I can find on the Maxtor site or the f-disk site mentioned above, then try and reinstall 2k. If that does not work I will purchase a new drive and disconnect the hard drive switch and go from there. Thanks Dave G |

| That debug command will do it there is info at that site, first though you could try Fdisk1r1 I've used it when regular fdisk didn't work, it's there also...
