Upgraded D975XBX, now cannot remove IDCC

Hey guys,

I upgraded my mobo yesterday to an Asus - the girlfriend is inheriting the trusty D975XBX

I have a problem though - in that I cannot remove the Intel IDCC software. If I 'add/remove programs' it says ...

"Please wait while SMBIOS installs drivers ... "

Then

"The Intel Desktop Control Center can only be installed only on Intel boards that support IDCC..."

Anyone know of a way to uninstall IDCC or manually remove it ?

Thanks so much,

S.S.

Congrats SpencerSteel on your upgrade. Which Asus mobo did you get?

I've never run Intel Desktop Control Center or an Intel board, so I can't help you there, but I would like to know: what does the IDCC do?

Try uninstalling the Intel Desktop Utilities first.

Re: Upgraded D975XBX, now cannot remove IDCC

Hey there - thought I'd follow up ... basically I had ALL kinds of weird ***** after my new mobo ... XP did not like it all at ... it was 'kinda' working, then would act really, really odd ... just fail to install stuff, bomb out ... all kinds.

I couldn't even get the Vista upgrade CD to start properly. In the end I had to do a total format of C:, reinstall XP and then go for the Vista upgrade.

All sweet now ... I just think XP got very confused when I swopped the Intel for a Asus P5e ...

Finally bit the Vista bullet and have to say, so far, i'm pretty impressed ... obviously a 5.3 overall score with 5.9 for graphics helps it run good

Thanks for caring guys ... I kinda knew I'd end up doing a new install when I got a new mobo - it always ends up messy otherwise

Good to hear you're enjoying your new Asus motherboard.

It never even occurred to me you didn't do a fresh install. Rule 1 - A new MB always needs a fresh install. Rule 2 - Read rule 1 again.

I could be cocky and say something about

Rule 1: Never assume the guy asking the question knows their *** from their elbow
Rule 2: Read rule 1 again

... but I won't

But thanks for the lesson matey ... I shall consider myself suitable embarrassed, as after 13 years in a 'IT job' I should have known better.

But, hey, it was a fun learning curve.
