| 11.5 MBs a sec on a 10/100 Network----Good??? According to Performance Test 6.1---Network Testing Section (similar to Qcheck----one PC acts as server---the other as client and data is sent and measured) I'm getting an average of 11.5 megabytes a second transmission rate on my 10/100 speed network I get virtually the same results from any computer I go to in the house---short or long runs Is that pretty good---or pretty bad----or average for a normal 10/100 speed network? I have no basseline in my head to compare it to----need your help/experience. Thanks----John

| Re: 11.5 MBs a sec on a 10/100 Network----Good??? 11.5 megabytes/sec is 92 megabits/sec (8 bits/byte), compared to a theoretical maximum of 100 megabits/sec for 10/100 ethernet. Sounds good to me! Regards, -- Al |

| Re: 11.5 MBs a sec on a 10/100 Network----Good??? I get around 18-22 MB on 100 network, on gigabit im around 35-45 MB. |

| Re: 11.5 MBs a sec on a 10/100 Network----Good??? SRT -- I suspect those are full duplex numbers, at least for the 100 network, meaning that data is being transmitted in both directions at once, and the numbers represent the total of both. Unless I'm all mixed up, always possible! From John's description it sounds like his numbers are single duplex (one way). -- Al |

| Re: 11.5 MBs a sec on a 10/100 Network----Good??? One caveat, that is a test from transmitter to receiver. It is not a true baseline. You are testing your possible maximum, which is good to see if the hardware is in check. In other words you know your peak. I have seen 100Mb Ethernet hit maximum, a little over 12MB, but it is never a sustained throughput and a long amount of time. TCP/IP, or just networking in general, is bursty. Aggemam graph should show this. If I am correct, that too is just a theoretical amount. Not a true transmission of bytes from a medium to another. |

| Re: 11.5 MBs a sec on a 10/100 Network----Good??? So----based on this---I could at least assume that my wiring is fine with no "cable bends" or other things affecting the basic cabling.... Understand it may still react differently once I jump to a gigbit network.... Correct????

| Re: 11.5 MBs a sec on a 10/100 Network----Good??? Basically, yes. When transferring from host to host you are first limited by bandwidth. Once bandwidth is excessive, as in gigabit Ethernet, you are limited by hard drives and sub system performance. He is full duplex. The datum given is without a doubt full duplex. |

I mean that he is without a doubt full duplex, but the datum given is not an aggregate, which usually as with all benchmarks, is half duplex. Aggemam's exmaple is perfect of what I and Ctal mean | |
