Yes, I can see how learning a web interface is very useful.

Re: Build a network attached storage device

Welcome to ABX ephekt.

You sound like someone that knows a thing or two.

There is no need to on the juice, try and enjoy the ride.

If you want to help others that are not as knowledgeable as you in curtain areas that would be great.

However, if you are looking for a fight ... maybe you joined the wrong forum.

Re: Build a network attached storage device

I think you're missing my point here. I was only offering ZFS as an alternative for readers. ZFS is extremely easy to setup; even a complete nix noob could spend 30 minutes reading and end up with a RAIDz array and CIFS setup at the end. ZFS also supports enterprise-level features, like self healing, automated scrubbing and pooled IO.

I'm sorry, but you seriously do not learn a thing by setting up FreeNAS. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but your comment is patently false. You do not even get into the md or LVM setups with FreeNAS, you only cerate arrays with the web interface.

Thanks for the welcome. Perhaps I'll post a ZFS tutorial.

Re: Build a network attached storage device

That'd be cool, it'd be nice to have a couple alternatives. We could always buy machines with Windows Home Server, lol.

And welcome to the forums.
