| computer getting wake up call P4PE/L Motherboard, US robotics 56K winmodem installed. Monitor turns off after 15 minutes idle, 5 minutes later comp goes to suspend. Now the weird part. Whenever my phone rings, comp wakes up. Same when I pick up the phone to make a call. Checked bios, all power up items disabled. Checked modem properties, box for modem to wake up comp is not checked. Anybody have any ideas where to look next? |

| Perhaps, in device manager, under power management tab for the modem, make sure the first thing is unchecked, and if it is to uncheck the second thing. . . maybe. |

| In the BIOS is there a WOL or WOR option? (Wake on LAN or Wake on ring) Perhaps that is enabled in the BIOS and it would wake the PC regardless of settings in Windows...

| Control panel, Phone & Modem Options, select modem tab, click properties. Select Power Management tab & uncheck "allow this device to bring computer out of standby".

| There ya go... I was mostly taking an educated guess since I never let my PC's "sleep"... Gotta fold! Sounds like that's it SKI!

| That's what I just told him to check - he said both management options are unchecked (which is odd, since the 'allow the computer to shut off this device to save power' is usually enabled.) |

| You all have great ideas, unfortunately, I had already checked all those items. All are set to NOT wake up. And it did this before I configured the fax wizard. It's not really any problem, just one of those annoying things that makes you wonder "why?" Does anybody else with a P4PE or US robotics modem experience this phenomenon? Just had an idea. Checked the driver for the modem and found it is assigned by M$, not from US Robotics. It came with my old Gateway originally. Think I'll try to find the manufacturers driver and see if anything different happens. |
