Difference in DSL modems?

I have been using a Speedstream 5260/5660 DSL modem for over two years now and have had no problems out of it. I recently upgraded to a faster speed through sprint and they (without asking) sent me a new Sprint model 645M Plus DSL modem. Are there any benifits to swaping over?

There must have been a limitation on the 'older' modem that made them send you a new one. Generally most DSL modems are limited by the bandwidth they are capable of or the type of phone line they can communicate on. (CAP... older vs. DMT... newer)

Must have been the faster speed that prompted them to send you a new one.

I thought about that, but the speed increase was also in conjunction with me moving into my new house. At first I thought that it was an accident. Maybe they thought I was a new customer or somthing... I'll give it a try and see if I get any better speeds.. Thanks Perry

Well you won't get better speeds if both are capable of handling the same bandwidth. Must have been a mistake then. If they are going to charge you for it, I'd call 'em and ask why they sent it.

Well looks like for now I won't be switching.. that stupid sprint modem uses a x-over cable for one.. It took me 1/2 and hour to figure out why the LAN light wouldn't come on and on top of that I can't connect with it through my router.. Maybe it's sprints way of keeping ppl from networking their homes without their "home network" kit junk.. I'm going to call and see what's up..
