I'm thinking about getting a gigabit router. The only decent option seems to be this D-Link GamerLounge. I have a D-Link giga switch I bought a LONG time ago, and it's been a good purchase. The linksys giga router sounds like a real POS from what I've read. Anybody suggest anything better, or maybe have a reason to not get it? Any input would be appreciated?? ![]()

Re: Gigiabit routers??? I have not found a better SOHO router than when using an Ubicom solution. In other words it does not matter who is the vendor because it is mainly based on Ubicom’s standards. There are minor variations such as the core logics used and the amount of concurrent connection NAT can handle. I would go for the DGL-4300 a recent post has it at a very reasonable price after rebates and promotion offer. Here is the link: D-Link Wireless Router

Re: Gigiabit routers??? I meant to post a link to it. Yeah, the DGL-4100 looks like the ticket, seen as how AT&T decided to completely RUIN the good features of my modem. The sad part is to enable the good features, it wouldn't cost a dime! They locked down the firmware so bad that you can't do anything with it! Check out the lame config page you get, and that's the "advanced" menu! They give you 1 IP that the built in DHCP server passes out, and absolutely NO way to configure the SPI firewall. According to motorola, there's port forwarding, and the ability to configure the internal network any way you want. Why you'd cripple a nice modem to this extent is beyond comprehension! The only good part is you can set the IPs manually, and still use the router function of the modem. They didn't lock out any puter but the one with the DHCP lease from accessing the net. They probably weren't smart enough to think of that or they might have!Newegg.com - D-Link DGL-4100 10/100/1000Mbps GamerLounge Broadband Gigabit Gaming Router 1 x 10/100Mbps WAN Ports 4 x 10/100/1000Mbps LAN Ports - Retail

Re: Gigiabit routers??? Well, I think I'm about to try something stupid. I've got a 2240 firmware, and I think I'm going to try flashing this POS with it! I hope it works, I wonder if anybody else has done it? The 2240 looks like the 2210, but just a commercially available modem from motorola. I'm thinking this may be possible, I wish I had a 2210 firmware to compare. You can't telnet into this modem like you can to others to make it puke it's firmware for a backup. I couldn't find any info on google about people trying this flash. I could end up killing the modem, in which case I'll have to play stupid with AT&T to get a new one.

Re: Gigiabit routers??? That is really odd. Not being able to configure any ports? Then how is NAT supposed to work properly? Something is wrong, and I do not think that was intentional to the extent that you are thinking. I would rather ask “how come I cannot configure the ports?” It may be simple as a log in creates the difference. There are routers and modems that have multiple log in now. Even the DGL series has this feature.

Re: Gigiabit routers??? I've looked it up, and that's it! People on other forums have the same problems, and it's just plain STUPID! I'm still thinking of trying the flash, but not until later when I'm done on the net for the day. That way, if I kill my modem, I can get it sent out first thing monday. ![]()

Re: Gigiabit routers??? Well if you find out what the hidden IP is, let me know, because I have no idea, and can't find it on google. The only IP I can log on to is 192.168.1.254. That's the standard BS config page, WHAT A JOKE! This kind of thing really gets under my skin, let's take a nice piece of hardware, and castrate it!

| Re: Gigiabit routers??? Hmm, the only 3 DSL modems I've used all used either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1

Re: Gigiabit routers??? Well I tried the 2240 firmware, and it said it was invalid. I tried every IP I could think of, and there's NO other log in. Other ISPs use this same modem, and it has all the firmware features enabled. In fact, it looks like a NICE unit from the screenies I saw of the config pages! The mental midget that decided to neuter this modem needs a brain transplant. Looks like the D-link gamer lounge is next on my hit list.

Re: Gigiabit routers??? Deerslayer, you will have to configure the modem to bridge to the router and not perform any other functions. I highly recommend calling the AT&T monkeys and find the magical IP number or whatever it is to get to the configuration page. Even if this detours you from getting the DGL router.
