Re: Help with virtual private network (VPN) connection

I'm happy to report that I got it working on the first try Spawn

The setup went abit like this ...

Setup account at no-ip.com

Setup port forwarding to port 3389 on my router following the instructions at no-ip.com

Downloaded and installed the app to keep track of my changing IP address.

Drove to work and used the custom url I created and bingo, it works.
BTW since this is a free account, they require you to change your host name within every 60 days or the account is deleted.

Hopefully it will keep track of the my changing IP and continue to work.

WOOT!

You're very welcome!

You sure it's changing the Host name?

I thought you simply had to use the service to keep it active. They may have changed that policy though...

You dont need to change your hostname after 60days just renew it. Ive been using the same host name for 3years from no-ip.

Is it just a matter of logging in and clicking a renew button ?

You'll get a email with a link you click on and it will renew for another 60days. They just started doing this and its a real pain.

Re: Help with virtual private network (VPN) connection

Thanks for clearing that one up.

Maybe many accounts were being setup but not used anymore so they decided to release them to get rid off unused ones ...

Re: Help with virtual private network (VPN) connection

Been using this setup for two weeks now.
Just wondering if someone can enlighten me on a few things ...

Most of the 1st week it connected fine.
All of last week except Friday I couldn't connect from work.
I had turned off the system after the 1st first week and on Monday I booted up and started the No-IP app to monitor the IP address but still no joy from work. Whenever I get it working it's more like hit and miss.

I realize that only one user can connect at one time. So if I'm logged in at home and I connect remotely, I get logged out and the remote connection logs in.
When I leave work for the day should I be logging off or just disconnecting ?
Does it make a difference if I log back in at home in either case ?
Does using remote desktop from other systems on the lan at home fubar the setup ?
