I just got a new router but...

I cant connect to the ip address that the instructions say the router has. Its saying to connect to 192.168.0.1 and when i try to connect it says it isnt there.
The wireless router is a Netgear WGR614, all the computers can see each other and communicate etc
But i want to be able to configure the settings for the router...any ideas? What am i missing here?
Im using WinXp MCE on 1 machine, and WinXp Pro on the other 2, all have Service Pack 2 installed.

Go to a dos prompt and run 'ipconfig'. The default gateway is the address you should use to access your router config page.

Also try ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew. Alternately, just reboot.

Your router is looking at your "old" IP address as assigned by your modem and doesn't like it.

Your computer has to be in the 192.168.0.XX range to "see" your router.

My first instinct is to ask if you plugged the cable modem into the WAN port on the router. It seems like maybe things aren't connected right. You might also try hitting the reset button on the router and rebooting everything (modem, router, pc's).

When you type "ipconfig /renew" it should take 5-10 seconds to pop up with a new IP. If it doesn't, something's wrong.

Excellent point - Drc Ok, are your router's WAN (Internet) and LAN lights on? You are doing this via ethernet cable, not over wireless, right?

All the correct lights are on, i can browse the web from all computers, and yes i am doing it all with cable, i intend going wireless with 1 pc in the future but i wanted to get it configured etc before doing so. Ive checked and double checked all the cables and they are fine.
I need to go out now, but i will do what u suggested Fraoch when i come back, and will post results...thanks everyone who replied
