Internet Slower then ever

Ever since this morning i reinstalled my windows sp2 to "refresh" my hard drive, internet has been slower then ever.
I was redownloading Counter-Strike since i play it from time to time,
and it was downloading at a rate of 40-50 KB/s but usually it goes up to 110-120KB/s.
Also as i surf the internet videos, and websites all take almost 40secs to load.
I think i didnt download something before i reinstalled this.
Also i cant play my ps3 online anymore where it just lags.
If anyone can help me please, this slow internet is really making me mad,
Thanks,
blisshap

Re: Internet Slower then ever

There is tons of things that could effect your internet speed. One thing for sure is the traffic on the network at the time you was downloading what you was. I notice late night if I run a speed test I get a 20mb down speed and during the middle of the day it's more around 12mb down. Also I don't know if it helps or not, but if I end up reinstalling windows I like to power cycle my modem and router just to make sure all the settings are fresh. Another thing you can try is updating the firmware of your modem and/or router it could help/

It's likely not your computer, there's been some pretty big outages in India and Asia that have affected net traffic worldwide..

"Power cycling" = turn it off, wait a few seconds, and turn it on. It probably doesn't have a power switch, so pull the plug.

It does get slow at times these days.

I find it happening on google map.

When I first used google map scrolling and magnifying was smooth and fast. Not anymore.

Re: Internet Slower then ever

Check your NIC properties in device manager see if it is set to half duplex instead of full duplex. If you don't know how to get there start-right click my computer-> properties ->hardware tab-> device manager-> Locate network adapters and right click your LAN adapter-> properties-> advanced tab-> connection type.

You can mess around with those and run a speed test after changing a setting and rebooting. Try disabling your firewall/ Anti-virus if you installed those yet.

When you power cycle the modem and/or router, unplug it for 1 minute.

Can you try installing Firefox just for a speed check? Is it the internet or is it internet explorer?
