| Layers of Gigabit Switches??? How many layers of gigabit switches can you go in a home network?? Is up to 3 layers OK??? Am going to recable my house with new switches and cable. I will have a main switch attached to my Gigabit Wireless N Router. Which will then branch to 4 rooms... Which will have a gigabit switch in every room..... Two of those rooms will further branch to far off rooms in my house(garage, etc) and those two rooms will each house a 5 port Gigabit switches------and will basically be at the end of the run. So I'm thinking three layers total.....

| Re: Layers of Gigabit Switches??? Gigabit switches come in Layer 2 and 3. The Layer 3 switches normal cost more and have more options.

| Re: Layers of Gigabit Switches??? I'm just talking about standard, relatively cheap, 5 and 8 port Gig switches like the Dlink 2205 and 2208 Using these switches.... OK to have a Router----then switch----then switch----then switch??? Is there ever a need for termination at any of the ends of the line in this rather basic Star topology???

| Re: Layers of Gigabit Switches??? Got it-----exactly what I was looking for. Thanks SRT You basically have three layers of switches----and it works just fine. Do you use any form of termiation at the end of your lines??

| Re: Layers of Gigabit Switches??? Daisy chaining is fine so long as you don't loop them, or go beyond 7 "layers" if using STP. |
