Thanks Kaz,
I just installed a BEFSR41 v.2 with 1.37 firmware about a week ago.

Since firmware upgrades erase your previous settings, does anyone have a good procedure for restoring them?

Upgrades do not erase old settings.

Also, if you guys want the latest, might want 1.38.6 instead

I was mainly interested in being able to get the mtu up to 1492 (max for pppoe) DSL reports was always telling me to do that when I tweak tested it, now I'm getting all happy faces. I was also getting a stall after about 8 hours of use that would require me to cut router power momentarilly to correct, I hope this fixes it....

Sorry about the outdated posting, but it's dated only 3 days ago at the Linksys site.....

You are lucky because I have the 8 port version and the MTU option is not in the firmware yet

I am "tompat" at DSLR.

Hi tomp,
About erasing router settings, is the following warning from the Linksys page in Kaz's post not applicable anymore?

"Please note that firmware is upgraded for the resolution of any problems you may be encountering with the router and not for additional features. Installing newer firmware on a presently-functioning router may result in router malfunction. Please be aware of this when downloading firmware.

Firmware upgrades will erase all settings previously selected in your EtherFast Cable/DSL Router's configuration. Before upgrading your firmware, make sure to record your settings."

Ver. 1.38.6 is the latest Beta but ver. 1.38.5 on the Linksys download page is the latest final release, correct?

Yes, you are correct about the firmwares. I nver had a firmware update change my settings, but it can happen. Many people have had it happen, just never to me

Thanks tomp,

It's useful to know there's a chance the settings may not be erased every time.

Actully Tomp, the latest BETA for LinkSys BEFSR41, BEFSR11 & BEFSR3U1 is version 1.39, put up 6-5-2001 at:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...de=flat#934818

When you go there, Please DO follow the request stated there to email Simon O. (per his instructions) with your router version (V1 or V2).

I flashed in the v1.39 firmware a week or so ago. One (of my 3) PCs still gets "stalled" by the router <I lose all TCP/IP then>, but somewhat less frequently with v1.39 compared to earlier v1.3x (betas and official releases). I can Un-stall it 50% of the time by launching a second browser to open my BEFSR41V2 configurator, then click around 2-20 times on the different Tabs (Setup, Password, Advanced, etc.), and it automagically starts traffic again. The other 50% of stalls force me either remove power from Linky router (probably Not a good idea? altho don't lose configured settings) -OR- reboot the stalled PC (probably the better Plan B).

Lemme know if you find a better solution please. Assuming these stalls can be corrected by firmware (I dunno what causes them anyway), I hope LinkSys does so soon - stalls are MOST irritating!
